I have 2 questions

1) I have an MRX-1, iPhone CC i-os and MX-890 remote. When i go to iphone and select "IF/ELSE", i see an option called "Sensor" (Also has "True", "Press Time" and "Variable". But when i go to the same place in MX-890, I do not see the "Sensor".
Does that mean MX-890 does not work with MRX-1 sensor port?

2) Any easier instructions on how to use the voltage sensor?
I don't understand clearly the MRX-1 manual on how the voltage sensor works.
I have a "Western Digital LIVE" box which has only a single HDMI out and does not have discrete ON/OFF buttons. So i want to use a voltage sensor to check the power on/off status.

1) MX-890 cannot query a sensor. The MRX-1 has no programming in it, it is a dumb box and so to query sensor status there has to be 2-way communication with a processor device. Hence, it works with your CCiOS app. Alternatively you could use a MSC-400 and the sensor port on that and it will work. iOS app won't work with MSC.

2) What kind of instructions do you need? The voltage sensor only has 2 states, ON or OFF. The remote control logic will do something based on the state of the sensor.

Thanks a lot. The information helps.

Wow. Feel bad to learn that MX-890 is a dumb box. I wish it had 2 way communication.

I already have MX-890 and MRX-1 to make the CC-ios app work. Now another device (MSC-400) just for sensor. Have to think about it.

Did some more research. Even though remotes like MX-5000 have 2 way, I preferred MX-890 since it has many buttons that I wanted. And also color buttons. I should have learnt the limitations early.

If I were you I wouldn't bother using a sensor on the cable box. Most cable boxes will time out after a few hours of non activity and shut off.

Additionally, you can use a wake command for the cable box. The common ones I use it would just be clicking the select button and the box turns on. Use this as the power on and if you want the box to shut off when you are done watching (not really necessary in most cases) use the regular power toggle in your off macro.

I want to know how to connect wires to voltage sensor.

1) Lets say someone rings a door bell, I want that to trigger a command.
Do i take two new wires and connect the voltage sensor to the existing wires that run to the bell?

2) I initially thought I could detect a power on/off status of a device by using voltage sensor. Is it possible? Or is it the job of a magnetic sensor that URC released recently?
If i could detect device power on/off using voltage sensor can you tell me how to connect wires. i have power adapter connected to device. Now do i have to open the live wire that goes to the device and add some joins?

I tried searching in google but may be my search term is wrong.

you can't trigger anything with the mrx1 or mrx2 sensor ports when using CCP.  they don't process anything.  all programming is stored on the remotes, so the MRX would have to send a command to the remote, and then the remote would have to perform a macro.

it doesn't work that way.  The MSC400 is the only processor in CCP that can do this since all the macros are stored on the MSC400.  However, the MSC400 is not compatible with the iOS app.

The sensor ports are only good for determining the power state of a device, then performing a macro based on that.  This only works with the network remotes though.  Your MX890 won't do this.

You need to switch to Total Control or CCGen2 to do what you want.

Hi Duct tape,

Thanks for the response. This was an old post, so let me re-write what i want to do. I changed the mrx-1 to msc400 since i found them very cheap in ebay.

writing up a new post with question
