Just wanted to let you know that URC today announced a new Product Line, ccGEN2. This line of products is similar to URC's Total Control with a few minor differences (No Streaming Audio Products, No Thermostats, Different Controllers and basic dynamics, No Built-in 2.4Ghz RF, etc).

The big difference is availability will be with Distribution rather than direct only. TOTAL CONTROL WILL ABSOLUTELY REMAINS A PROTECTED LINE FOR DIRECT DEALERS ONLY AND WILL NOT CHANGE.

Volutone in Southern California will be the first rollout with more to follow.

URC Announces ccGEN2™ Whole-House Automation System

New whole-house automation system enters expanding initial rollout phase through select distributors with nationwide availability expected soon

Harrison, N.Y. – February 10, 2014 – URC, the brand that’s been proven in millions of American homes, today announced ccGEN2, a complete two-way, IP-based product line that parlays years of experience and leadership in the one-way control and home entertainment arena with its Complete Control™ line, and builds upon the success of the multiple-award-winning Total Control® home automation system.

Sales of ccGEN2 are scheduled to begin soon through select distributors. Rollout to a limited number of distributors across the United States will be staggered over several weeks. The distributors that are handpicked to sell and support ccGEN2 will themselves be trained and certified, and will participate in the training and certification that’s required of installers who desire to become ccGEN2 dealers.

From the get-go, ccGEN2 (full name “Complete Control Generation Two”) will consist of twelve (12) products including two wand-style remotes, two in-wall keypads (one is touchscreen), mobile apps and main and subordinate network system controllers. We expect this next generation line to take the Complete Control brand into the whole house and the future.”

Volutone, with seven distribution locations in California and Nevada, will be first-to-market with the new product line in early March. “URC has been an esteemed and supportive partner of ours for years,” said Trevor Hansen, vice president of Volutone. “We strongly believe that ccGEN2 will capitalize on the burgeoning home automation market. We’re delighted to be the first distributor to sell the full product line.”

Volutone has training certification events scheduled at all of their seven locations, beginning in March. Interested integrators should check the URC and Volutone websites for times, locations, and additional details.

To assure unfettered success and maximum end-user experience for every installation, dealers applying to sell ccGEN2 products must pass a thorough certification process and receive approved training. ccGEN2 products, with few exceptions, are not compatible with URC’s one-way, RF/IR Complete Control system or with Total Control products. A new dealer-oriented website, www.URC-ccGEN2.com, will soon be available to help integrators learn more specific information about the product line and compatibility.

so a 3rd product line that is in no way compatible with the other product lines?  you guys love creating confusion, don't you?

edit:  i see that the drivers are compatible between ccGEN2 and Total Control.

All Two-Way Drivers, One-Way Drivers are compatible with TC & ccGEN2.

Controller is made for smaller systems than TC (up to 8), it is essentially a retooled MRX-1 with 2 Relays instead of 1.

CP-1 is the Master Processor
MRX-4IR becomes WC-1
MRX-1 becomes AC-1
MRX-4SEN is Cross-Compatible
TRF-ZW1 is Cross-Compatible
ZR-1N and ZR-2 are Cross-Compatible
PSX-2 is Cross-Compatible
All URC Lighting is Cross-Compatible

Software also shares the same IR, RS-232, and IP Databases and structure.

In the end this actually makes things LESS CONFUSING for development, it also provides a single point for two-way development so the database can be increased faster.

Software is actually the same minus the few pages that don't make sense for the Generator Software - it simply removes the DMS Setup and Thermostats Screen - therefore updating the software, adding new features, etc is all quick and seamless.

Programming is the same other than the missing steps so moving form one to the other is quick and seamless if needed.

TC Remains a Dealer-Direct Product Line and will be reserved for top-dealers whom have shown they are capable of the more advanced functionalities TC Offers from an Automation Standpoint. This will become MUCH more prevalent when the MRX-20 and other planned products hit the TC Product Line as design, implementation, and programming will become more advanced (but much more powerful)

Hi, just wondered if the new ccGEN2 products and devices will be available to the DIY community and/or to DIY retailers for resale through distributors?  Or will it be available for integrators/installers/ URC dealers only?  I am a Home Automation Retailer and would be interested in supplying these products for resale to my customers.

It is only for professional integrators as it offers a high-level of customization options, etc.

The initial post says it's going to be sold by Volutone.

When does the MRX-20 hit the US market? Aside from the On-Screen and HDMI features, how does it improve upon the MRX-10? What is the MSRP of the MRX-20?
