I have a newer mx850 that I cannot upload to with my old non update-able MX850 editor.

I have a version of MX700 editor that is updatable and can upload to this newer remote.
Does any one know if I program the remote on my outdated mx-850 editor,
then upload it with the MX700 editor will the rf programing be uploaded as well.

Yes, it will. If you received any update in the last 9 years, your IR only software was replaced with RF capabilities. Even the mx-850 software still includes the sidekick option.

Why won't your software update? I just checked my stand alone editor tonight and it pulled down an update.

Well why doesn't he get an editor that an be updated. It is super easy to come by.
