Was working fine yesterday. I've programmed it trying to fix variables and punch-through. But it functioned fine. Come from work today and the remote is not responding (and the screen is constantly on and doesn't go to sleep). I suspect cleaning lady sprayed it with windex or something like that but otherwise it's undamaged. I can press main + enter and it goes into system menu. The screen is unresponsive but it reacts to buttons there. I've tried factory reset but the same thing is happening. Almost seems like the screen shorted somewhere - not sure if it's even possible. Either that or got bricked by the software or firmware. Called URC and they weren't helpful. Offered to replace out of warranty for $419. If anybody has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

Try loading an empty file to it

When you get into the setting menu, try and get into the screen calibration mode. You can use the page up and down button when it asks something or another. Sorry, don't remember the exact process off the top of my head. It is possible the screen got all out of whack.

Unfortunately, neither worked. Empty file didn't not make any difference. Tried to calibrate and cannot get the screen to respond. I think the sign is that the screen is always on. I almost feel like some liquid got between capacitive layers and the screen acts as if someone is constantly pressing on it. Don't know if it's possible. I'm hoping it might dry up and start working.

Actually, while I was on the phone with my dealer, the screen responded to the touch ONCE but not again. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Thank you for the suggestions though.

Take the battery out and throw it in some rice like you would do with a cell phone. Then cross fingers.

I have never done anything involving rice with my cell phone but it's definitely not a case of moisture getting in. I've actually disassembled it (after URC support telling me it's out of warranty) and haven't found anything that would indicate liquid. The only possibility is some liquid getting in between the touch screen layers. But, visually, there's nothing. Maybe it's at the border but enough to mess it up. Dealer said he's never hard of it. It's usually the soda getting under the keypad that breaks it.

Sounds like URC was trying to be helpful and all you now have is a disassembled remote that doesn't work. They don't owe you anything.

1. I've never said they owed me anything. The point of this post was to see if I can find the solution.

2. Let me re-phrase it: URC tried to help but weren't able. He walked me though Factory Default reset and that's all they've had in store. The only option he could offer is to replace (out of warranty). At this point I've asked him if it would make sense to open and see if there was some liquid inside. He said it would void the warranty but it was out of warranty anyway. Thus, I've opened it.

You seem to have gotten this "I've opened my new remote and now URC won't fix it" vibe here and it's not the case. Just wanted to make things clear.

Also, I wanted to post here in case this is somehow caused by software/firmware and it ever happens to anyone else, at least we'd have more data points.

He's just trying everything he can to see if there is a possible fix instead of trying to buy a new remote. There's nothing wrong with at least asking us about it and putting in a call to URC.

Nowhere in his posts do I see him bitching about URC. He just said they weren't helpful and didn't have a solution. And now he is asking us for suggestions.

It's post like these that keep our customers off this forum.

I'm sorry but I disagree with your post...

Ok, and the point is what? The only common thing in those threads is that URC warranties products for a year, and that you do not have the ability to be civil. The OP here was nothing but pleasant and civil and looking for some help. Let it go and learn how to help and not be a dick. All he wants is some advice.

I've personally now had 3 trc-1280 remotes brick randomly in different ways. I realize this remote is based on the mx-5000. Once it's bricked, you only way to fix it is to TCT (rma) the item.

With regards to the MX-1200. I am trying to remember. I thought there was a button sequence to get into the boot loader. This probably won't help you if it's a dead screen issue.

After having issues with two MX-1200 being bricked by a setup (turned out the remotes struggle with grayscale files) I tried a lot of things to bring them back to life.
What worked for me is pressing and holding Main and Mute and then putting the battery in while still holding the buttons. Tbis brings up the Boot Loader. From there I uploaded a blank file. After that I could program it normally again.
