The Xfinity X1 service I got came with a Pace box and an XR2 remote which outputs RF. No line of sight is needed anymore which is nice (if you use the remote) but I was unable to learn my MX-880 remote any of the RF output of the XR2. The 880 is capable of learning RF, right? I know certainly it can learn IR, which I normally at least use in my home, simple setup...but I wanted to program the XR2 remote into my MX880 but its just not learning any of the RF. Has anyone been through this? The guy that was here helping me out gave up, left me everything to do it myself and here I am. He couldn't program it either. I was able to program my DVD, Media Player and other remotes into the 880, and they were all IR. Does the MX880 have trouble learning RF?

Don't say that. I haven't gotten around to programming my URC with the XR2. I just had the Xfinity X1 service installed and I think it is great. Their new XR2 remote actually let me program my receiver volume control//mute/power so all I need is that one remote right now. If you happen to get any further, let us know. Curious.

The MX880 and ANY remote will NOT learn RF signal. It is a proprietary signal and is regulated by the FCC. You will have to either find codes for that box, or find out if they have an IR remote available also (or perhaps an IR mode for the OEM remote). I have no experience with them since Comcast is not in my area.

Bummer. I do know someone that works for Comcast, but I'm not sure they would know what codes the XR2 remote uses. I wonder what someone does that spends $50k+ on a home system and then is told they can't use their high end URC remote with the Comcast X1 cable box. So trivial.

But as one user did say here I was able to punch through my receiver volume control / power and a couple of inputs. So I'm basically just using the $10 Comcast remote and have my $350 URC remote collecting dust. What a U-turn.

The X1 service has gotten a lot better since I got it. There have been several updates and I always make sure I manually update the X1 box also. There is a button in the "about" section where you can process a manual check. One thing that bothers me which is resolved by turning it off is that preview box that pops up to inform you about the show, and it blocks a lot of the screen so you can't see anything behind it. Glad there is an option to turn that off. Just trying to figure out how to save the tick mark on HD when viewing the guide. I'm always having to check that.

Sorry, a little bit off topic.

First off, the issue you are experiencing has nothing to do with URC. IF the device is not offered with IR control, than the fault lies with that manufacturer. No company, NONE, will be able to learn RF commands, be it a $10 remote or a $10,000 remote.

With that said, I would be VERY surprised if that Comcast box is RF only. It is possible that the remote YOU have from them is RF only, but the box most likely supports both IR and RF.

From looking in CCP, I see that there are Xfinity codes, Xfinity IR ONLY codes, Xfinity IP ONLY codes, and Xfinity RF ONLY codes. Have you gone through those codesets to ensure whether none of the provided codesets work?

it looks like you may need to unpair the RF remote in order to control the box with IR.  The codes that Goldenzrule mentioned in the URC database should work for you after you do that.

"To unpair the XR2 remote you have to hold the setup button until the "All Power" button changes from red to green.  Then enter 9-8-7."

I have paired my remote with the box. And that remote only works with that box. I'll load up the ol' XP and try to test some of the codes that come with CCP. I go through cable boxes like tissues, so I won't spend that much time on it. Most of my DVR hard drives die out and/or the box just stops working.

This is the actual cable box that I have, and indeed it does support RF and IR.

Read existing threads about code set 195 for IR and 202 if you are using a URC base station.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Yes you have to unpair the RF pairing to the box before trying to learn the IR. Then it sends out IR signals. You can verify this if when you press a button the pwr light on the XR2 remote blinks red or green. Red being IR and Green being RF. I recently bought a URC-R40 remote to use with the new xfinity X1 box. Mine came with a XR2 U2 remote. There are no codes already installed in the URC-R40 for it. So I was going to learn all the IR. Well Something is wrong. Some of the buttons will learn and stay learned. But if I program more some will stop working that I have already learned. Some will stay learned and work. But I can not program all the buttons over from XR2 to URC-R40 using IR. Though every time I put it in learn mode and then press the XR2 button, the URC-R40 reads the signal and says good. But the button does not work.

Looking for some more direction so I don't have to experiment.

I have a Nevo Q50 and software - love it. Just got X1 with XR2 remote. I have tried doing the unpair mentioned. However, when I press any XR2 remote button the "All Power" button still blinks RED. So, did I unpair it or not?

I have an old Yamaha RAV remote and I put it in LEARN mode just to see if the XR2 sends an IR signal out – it doesn’t.

I see in the NEVO software an option to add a new device for PACE Set Top Box. PACE is the manufacture of the XFINITY X1 boxes from what I have read???
Anyway, can I still use my NEVO Q50 to run this new XFINITY Set Top Box or not?

I found the NEVO code set - ya!!! ADD DEVICE:

Cable Set Top Box/COMCAST/C1982

Hope this helps the NEVO crowd
