I have an MX-3000 in an application with a Mitsubishi HC-5000 that has been working fine for 5-6 years. Suddenly I am no longer able to control the projector from the MX-3000 unless I am just a couple of feet away. The Mitsubishi remote still works from a distance. I have re-learned the codes into the MX-3000 and no change. I can control other devices with IR from the MX-3000 (although I think with less range... maybe). I used a pair of night vision goggles to see that indeed I am transmitting an IR code from the 3000 (although I can't tell you with how much power). Is there any setting on the MX-3000 which could control the gain of the output of the IR blaster. I can't put a bug on the projector because of location, so I rely on the IR blaster from the 3000 to either the front or back sensor on the projector which has always worked flawlessly. Neither sensor picks up the 3000 now unless I am within a few feet of the projector. It will work then. Seems like a gain issue, but what would cause that to change so significantly?

What kind of wiring do you have at the projo location?

If you got 6years out of the MX3000, then you got lucky. Touch screens with rechargeable batteries? That's a double helping of things likely to break down. I expect to do a near full replacement of most a/v gear every 5 years or so. Do you have another mx3000 handy to test your theory.

I had thought the MX3000 had three IR blasters on the front. Based on its each, it is highly possible it just doesn't have the punch it needs anymore. Hell, URC only gives you a year warranty.

There is NO WAY to get RF there?

Not ideal but you could place a mrf260 at the projector location. A new remote might be the best option though as the rest of the remote's functions may fail sooner rather than later.

I don't have another 3000 to try, but like you, I suspect one or more blasters have failed. Didn't think about adding another RF unit at the projector. It might be a crap shoot about investing in the MRF if the rest of the remote will die soon. I probably have an RF unit on a shelf somewhere that I could try out. Thanks, both of you two for sending a thought. It got the rusty wheels moving again.

I tried another MRF-250 that I had on a shelf and sure enough, it works great. Didn't even have to put it near the projector. With the IR blaster set on, it flooded the room allowing me to place it in a inconspicuous spot. For sure, it was the 3000 that failed. I'll ride that wave a bit longer until something else fails and then replace the remote. Again, thanks for the great idea!!
