When I use the RF20 to control my Vizio TV, it will power off and then power back on from the code it found. i tried to learn the OFF button from the original remote.
I cannot fine a code that will work with the Directv HR24. I have tried the 173 code that has been mentioned here and it will not work. Mine is strictly IR. The H264 remote has a lot of buttons and I cant see where I could learn all of them and them work.
Anyone have any ideas? I have read where some people had programmed everything out of the box withe never reading manual. That is hard to believe.

Thanks
Roger

For the Directv receiver to respond to URC code 173, it has to be set to default IR codeset 00001, is it? There are 8 IR codesets in Directv receivers, from 00001 thru 00008.

Remember receiver in RF mode, its RF only, no IR.

Edmund,
The receiver is in IR mode. I don't understand what is meant by code set?. I have seen that before but cant seem to find how to get to it.
Thanks, Roger

Multiple code sets enable you have more than one receiver in the same room. Out of the box the receiver is set to IR code 00001 in the Directv remote, to see if its still set to that code, do the following on the directv white remote:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1

If the remote still controls the receiver, than code 173 in the RF20 will too. If remote no longer controls the receiver, your receiver is either in RF mode, or set to a different IR code than 00001. Like 00002 or 00003. But there is no preset code for address other than 00001 in the rf20. And you would have to teach.

If after doing the above steps, and now no remote controls your receiver, see if enabling RF remote restores it:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1
4. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
5. enter 9 6 1
6. press CH UP
7. enter last 6 digits of Receiver ID #(RID), found on a sticker in the access card compartment
8. press SELECT

Test remote on receiver.

To turn off RF, and restore IR on the remote:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1

Edmund, I tried this and i got 2 blinks after after I enter 00001, I went ahead and did the 961 thing and restored to IR. I try the code 173 and it still won't work.

The 8 step 961 procedure turns the RF on and marries it to the receiver that is already in RF mode. You may not think its in RF mode, or want it in RF mode, but it is in RF mode.

Go into the receiver's menu:

1.menu> setup> settings> remote> IR/Rf>
2. you will see IR or RF, click whichever to reveal both
3. chose IR
4. Done

Now restore directv remote to IR:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1

Directv remote should work, and RF20 using code 173 as well.

Edmund,
I did this and some of the buttons work on the RF20. Do you have to learn the rest of the functions?
Have you got any idea on the Vizio TV?
Thanks,
Roger

Remember your attempts to teach before was with a directv remote in RF mode, no IR. Now that is in IR you will be able teach without any trouble. But for cleaner learns, see the directv remote adds an extra signal to each command. To turn off this extra signal:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 6 3
4. press CH DOWN

Now teach.

As for vizio, sorry no experience with Urc remotes and vizios. Hope someone else will chime in.

Roger, on URC remotes you won't found discrete power commands mapped to the ON & OFF keys, ever. If code has them, you'll find it on one of the pages of the LCD, usually the last one.

If the vizio codes don't work, try Goldstar tv codes.

Not true. Many av receivers power discretes are mapped to the on/off keys.

I really don't understand what this means. I am just trying to get my Directv HR24 to work with URC RF20.

the comment wasn't directed at you.

i'm not familiar with the remote you are programming.  it could be because you are posting in the wrong section for the remote you are trying to program.

Does that remote list remote codes by model number?

If so, look for the D10 model, those are the codes you want to use.
