I've searched and cannot find any posts on Windows 8.1. Has anyone tried running CCP with Windows 8.1? CCP runs OK but I cannot communicate with the MX 980.

The dealer site has some tech notes on how to get around this.

Windows 8.1 will work fine with the MX-980 - the dealer site provides instructions on fixing this issue which is a driver assignment issue (and you need to install some Microsoft Software which they require for you to communicate with devices via USB)

8.1 does not currently work with NETWORK PRODUCTS that download/upload over the network - this is due to Microsoft changing certain network protocols and the resolution should come very shortly.

Is there any way to get info on what that needs done to make it work? The dealer I bought mine from is no longer in business. I did find another local company that sells these, but they won't give me any info since I didn't buy from them, so I'm sort of stuck here.

Hello from Spain,

I have the same problem as described in this forum.

The distributor in Spain is not the solution.

Can you you help me?

Thank you.

If you are a dealer for URC, you will have access to the dealer only site. All the answers lie there on how to make W8 work with URC software. If you are not accessing the dealer site, where there is a wealth of information along with a robust forum I would ask myself if I was really serious.

Why is nobody simply answering this person as opposed to referring to the "Dealer Site" ???

Why is everything about URC so secretive ?

Come on folks, let's simply just help each other...

Unfortunately, this site has turned into more of a "dealer" site. It used to be filled with knowledgeable people that enjoyed helping other members. Those days seem to be long gone and I don't see them coming back.

It's still full of knowledgeable people who enjoy helping other members with the understanding that they already have the toolset available to them. It's not our problem if you don't have access to the software, that's why we refer to the dealer site.

If you need help with a remote configuration problem then that's what we're here to do. We're not here to help you do an end-around on legitimate URC dealers who invest in training and inventory and sell these products and services as part of their business model.

It's too bad that this site is full of people who are like "ha ha I know and you don't and I won't help you unless you PAY me to help you".

As pointed out by many people, URC does not prevent dealers from giving the software and helping people. But, certain people on this site do.

This is a poor business model which few important companies use. URC could easily KILL Logitech and other remote vendors with a better business model. They have great products.

For those of you who believe in URCs model, simply DON'T ANSWER A POST as opposed to referring to manuals/files which are unavailable to consumers. One of the great advantages of the web and forums is for people to HELP EACH OTHER.

That's typically how the business model works. This is a business after all.

If you were my customer we might have a different conversation.

URC could easily kill their own business by letting everything out into the wild. Nothing gives a control system a bad rap like one that doesn't work, and one that doesn't work could be truly a piece of shit or it could be programmed incorrectly. URC makes good remotes and trains their dealers to program them well. Are you going to bitch about Elan not letting you do your own G! installation and programming too?

If you read the other posts in this forum many of them are about help. The ones asking for software are closed because this isn't a forum for configuration software.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see anyone asking for software. What I see, are questions asking how to get the software to work on Windows 8.1.

You are not missing anything! That's the whole point. No one is asking for anything illegal other than some help. The same way I asked a simple question and was referred to a non-public manual...
