Hi,

Can some send me a link or email me the URC programming soft... I keed, I keed.

Really, I have a question about a method of programming the URC remotes that I believe I read about on this site, but can't seem to find the post. The idea revolved around having 3 layers to the programming:

The backend layer, which is comprised of the actual commands for the components of the system

An alias layer which just points to the backend commands in a 1 to 1 fashion

And finally a user interface layer that contains the buttons and macros for the end user.

As I recall, the idea was to point the user interface layer commands and macros to the alias commands instead of directly to the actual component commands. In this way, if one was programming another system or changed out a component in the system, the changes required would be to add the new components commands and then point the aliases to these commands - i.e. this would not require redoing push-throughs and would only require minimal if any changes to macros. (I hope I am making sense and I apologize if I am not using the precise terminology.)

In any case, if I am not dreaming this up, it would be great if anyone could expand on this or point me to an existing thread that describes it in more detail (e.g. best implementation). Thanks in advance.

I know I posted a lot about this back in my Pronto programming days, and I specifically used the term "layers" for that discussion. But that was close to nine years ago, so you probably saw this somewhere else.
