Can anyone give me more info about what the MRX-2 can do that the MRX-1 can't? All I found was on URC's website: "The MRX-1 and MRX-2 are essentially the same but the MRX-2 adds additional RS-232 capability including two-way communication with Network Series products." I am using an MX-6000 and am very interested in what additional benefits may provide for RS-232 2-way. Thanks.

The MRX-2 can receive the RS232 replies from devices where the MRX-1 ignored them.

You can keep track of device states or display metadata if you have a parser to handle it.

Excellent. That is what I wanted to to use it for. Send a request string, receive back a response and make custom variables to interact with the response. No need to continue to hope for a 2-way driver for D-Box. :) Thank you Lowhz.

Interesting. So does this mean that with the MX-5000 and an MRX-2 that an Oppo 95 Bluray player for instance, connected via RS-232, would be able to render elapsed time, Total time and a scrubbing slider onto the display of the MX-5000??

Thanks for the help.

Nope. MX5000 doesn't have enough logic in it to do that. What you're describing would need an IP driver created using TCL which is their preferred programming language. RS232 would require constant status requests.

MRX-2 2-way 232 is more suited for the iPad app and it's logic.

Okay, so I assume the MX-6000 would also not be able to do this? Thanks for clarifying.

i'm pretty sure that is because the answer is no.  as far as i know, the 2 way capabilities are only compatible with Total Control.

I never see much about Total Control. Anyone have any good or bad experiences? So far, I've only seen indifference. That could be good, since usually people only speak up when something is wrong. What say you?

I think the reason you don't hear much about it on remote central, is that it is not a DIY product.  There are plenty of discussions over at the URC Control Room forum.

I beg to differ. But I will know soon enough...it's on my list of next things to work on.
