I have been happily using an MX950 for a good few years now. However, a few weeks ago I accidentally dropped the remote after which it would function only when in the charging cradle. I have managed to find a replacement remote on eBay which arrived today. I've programmed it OK with my saved copy of the software and all seemed OK for a while. But after an hour or so that too is now behaving in exactly the same way as me original damaged one. When the remote is in the cradle the blue status light is illuminated, but when I remove it from the cradle, the remote(s) just goes dead. Does anyone have any suggestions on this strange problem?

Agree 100%, I had exactly this problem, got a new battery from Germany for £5 in a few days, and all is well.

Thanks goldenzrule and kdp99, but I have tried a new battery with no luck. With the new battery installed, the status light just goes straight to blue suggesting its fully charged - and that's the same on the two cradles I now have.

Where did you get the new battery? Did it come with the newer remote?

Did you call URC about replacing it? They offer replacements for FAR less than retail and probably less than "new" on eBay. Just FYI.

In order of likelihood:

1. Bad battery
2. Broken pc traces on board where battery plugs in (battery change can do this)
3. Oxidation of charging contacts on wand or dock. Use fiberglass brush or soft pencil eraser to scrub/shine up both sets of contacts
4. Defective remote
5. User malfunction

Last one is for fun.

It is quite possible that the replacement battery that you purchased is defective. I would try returning/exchanging it for a new one before replacing the remote or sending it in for repair. Also I would make sure that the battery contacts nice and clean.

Just some possible insight -- a battery can "look" like a good battery to the charger, yet not be able to output enough current when out of the charger to run the remote. In that case the charger is running the remote. As said, poor contacts can cause this, but also a battery that's defective inside.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
