I have done a battery pull, and my two year old mx-880 screen has gone black. The backlights will flash when it's plugged into the charger (with and without the battery). The backlights glow steady when unplugged from charger (battery in). The backlights and screen stay dark when battery is removed and reinserted while unplugged.
The flashes are mixed quick and slow. I'm guessing the flashes are error codes?
Is this thing dead?
Thanks for any insight.

I've never heard of this personally. It sounds like there may be a physical issue (possibly a short). Do you have a local electronics repair shop that you can trust? If so, it may be faster than sending it out to URC. It can't hurt to take it to one, if they offer free estimates.
