I have a MX-850 with a Sony KDL40V2500 and I can not get the remote to control the volume + / - or mute. I have tried to "learn" the commands from the original TV remote and nothing. I can get it to work in "test" mode from the computer but after I download to the remote, nothing. Any suggestions?

You might have a punch through on the TV set for some other device.

Check the punch through, as Daniel had mentioned. The other thing I'm wondering is if you did the learning while there was a lot of sunlight or other IR, which may have caused it to fail. I will sometimes cover the remotes with my hand, so it blocks out potential interference while learning.

Another note, when learning vol+/- functions, you don't always want to do a single press. In order to get the volume buttons to ramp up and down while you hold them on the MX-850, you may need to learn them by tapping the vol buttons on the original remote while learning. So, instead of press and hold until the editor says "good", you'll want to tap-tap-tap-tap the buttons in an even, consistent rhythm.

I hope this helps.
