Guys,

I'm looking at the product box for the URC MX-780 (see below) and in CCP I am unable to get the text on my buttons to show up the way that it is shown to look in the product picture.

How can I do this? All I have is the ability to make the text larger but don't see any way to make it show up in the bottom half of the button and be centered or left justified.

Thank you.

I'm fairly certain you cannot. To be honest, it looks terrible having text overlayed on top of a graphical button. I would use a blank (General) button if you wish to label it. Most of the time, if I am using a MX780, I will just use the icon without the text (i.e. Cablevision, AppleTV, Bluray...)

The General button icons look "ok" with text. You can also create your own.

Thanks goldenzrule.

It's kind of sad that URC used a graphics designer to show off the interface of the remote for the product packaging rather than just using a screenshot of....the actual software.

They must have realized it looks terrible with text on top of the buttons.

I'm sticking with no text labels like you said. I already was going without the text labels but when I was looking at the picture on the box I thought that it didn't look too bad and would try to get my setup to look the same way.

Your post confirms that this isn't even possible.

The bad thing is, when you take out the text on the lable, it also dissspears in the tree on the left. Unless I'm missing something.
why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

Yes, you are simply missing something ;-)

It's common though if you do not have experience with the remote. What you have to do is keep the label when you create the devices (do not erase). In the simulator window, right click on the device icon and select Hidden Text.

Designer here!

Due to how production schedules work in manufacturing, product boxes are generally printed months ahead of hardware production, when the software is not yet functional enough to take a screen shot and (if you look closely) the physical housing of the device may not even be cast yet.

Our engineers make every attempt to get the software to function as per the original design, but no process is perfect. I agree that text over a graphical button is not ideal. When you produce a color remote control though, you'll get raked over the coals if it doesn't have graphical icons. The size of the 780 screen and the physical limitations of placing the buttons beside that screen forced some compromises on us that we felt were merited to get the remote out at a lower cost.

So anyway... I'm not saying that anyone is right or wrong. I'm just letting you in on the thinking that led to the circumstance.

Take care!

Darnitol,

Thank you for that explanation -- makes a lot of sense. Very nice of you to chime in on this thread with some behind the scenes experience!
