OK guys I have my MX900 and I want to program my 4 tv's they are all the same sony bravia. Can I program each TV and power them on and off independently without the bases station or do I have to wait to get the MSC400 basestation and use the IR ports on them?

If they're 4 TV's in different areas of the house, you can use the 900. If they're all in the same vicinity, then you will have problems.

No, you need a basestation and the remote has to be in RF only. And the IR repeater cables need to be taped to the front of the components so the only commands reaching the gear is coming over the repeater cable.

Well, except the mrf100!

If you are using a base unit (MRF) or processor (MRX, MSC) and address the emitters properly while setting the signal type to RF only you do not have to worry about overlapping signals, cross-talk or any other issues. You definitely do not have to block the emitters or shield them. (Just be sure to put them in the correct place).

You're full of it, the only way to prevent the cable from bouncing the signal off the component and controlling similar gear, is by tenting.

Full of it? Let me reserve my comments to the subject. If you are doing a video wall it's possible there could be IR leakage. However, I have done plenty of jobs with multiple TV in bar, restaurants and a gym in NYC without masking and never had a problem.

it would depend on the emitters being used.  Im not a fan of urc emitters, but they are good at blocking the ir signal from dispersing to other devices.  The tops of the emitters are opaque, and only a pinhole is opened to see the red flash.

Agreed. I occasionally use the Xantech masks, but am unaware of the need of tenting (or even what that means, but I was pitching a tent when I woke up this morning).

Regardless, I don't think it is necessary to type a "you're full of it" on such a benign subject. Somebody has been drinking.

But John is correct, URC emitters a tad bit better about stray IR than other brands.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.
