I have the MRF-350 base unit and the receiver unit (rfx-250) connected to it via the plug that has the 3 wires.

In the manual it says you can connect a 3.5 mm mono cable from the out on the receiver to the in on the MRF-350 base.

Problem is, once I plug in that 3.5 mm cable, the power lights go off on the base. It doesn't matter if the plug with the 3 wires is in or out. None of the controls work when I do this.

If I leave it in and also plug in the 3.5 mm cable, nothing seems to transmit.

So I don't know what I am doing wrong. Can you connect with just the 3mm cable? Are you supposed to remove the "data" wire on the 3 wire plug?

What is the label on the connection of the receiver?  Maybe you are connecting to the 12 volt trigger and not an ir input?  What model receiver do you have?

there is only one jack on the receiver. There are 2 on the base, "IN" and "OUT". I have it in the "IN" per the manual (picture) on page 3.

I don't have time to read the manual but if it states mono, it's incorrect. You need 3.5 mm stereo to 3.5mm stereo for that application. 2 bands on the end vs. 1. Why are you using 3.5 mm for the RFX when you already are using the molex connector?

Stereo cable worked.

I want to use the 3.5 mm cable because it is smaller and less wires. I am runnign out of space to run cables through and the 3.5 seems so much neater.

I've had a few Receivers that won't work through the direct input 3.5mm plug.
