I was able to find the settings for this function and verified that the timers and pickup sensor are turned on. The back light however will not turn off. It is draining the battery in about one hour.

Is there a trick or something I can check to get the back light to turn off?

I have to confess that this remote has had a somewhat difficult life so far. It's had a couple drinks spilled on it... It may just be time to put it out of its misery.

Sounds like you're a candidate for a MXW-920, the first beer-proof remote!

That's a pretty cool remote! It's been a couple years since I've shopped for remotes, so I really don't know what's out there. I have two 980's for my two systems and haven't felt the need to look for a different remote. The 980 is way overkill for this system though.

Surf Remote has a statement saying the 920 is not compatible with total control products. Does that mean that I can not program that remote with CCP?

The MX920 can only be programmed by CCP.

Currently, the only wand remotes compatible with Total Control are the TRC-780 and TRC-1280.

The MX980 is still available. If you like it, you can just get a new one and upload your existing program.

Total Control is a different line than Complete Control (CCP). The 920 is essentially a MX900 is a waterproof shell. The 980 is a much nicer remote.

Thank you.

I really don't need a remote for this system will all the bells and whistles, and cost, of the 980. Programming with CCP, a couple simple macro's and charging cradle is all I want.

Then look at the newer MX-890.

The 890 is a great remote, however it is only $100 cheaper than the 980 and offers most of the same bells as whistles so to speak. Take a look at the MX780. Smaller screen and runs on AA batteries. It's half the cost of the 980 and a great remote.

Thanks guys. Both look like good replacements. I have gotten used to the charging cradle, so the 890 will most likely be the one to get. The 880 looks like a dandy too.

At first glance, the 880 does not look all that different the the 890. Once you get into the programming, you see just how much more customizable the 890 is. It is much more a baby brother of the 980 than a big brother of the 780. To be honest, if you are looking at the 890, for $100 more, you can have the 980 and not have to put any time at all into programming, just upload and be done.

I do really like the 890 though. It's currently my most popular remote and I have one myself in my house as well.
