I'm trying to improve IR signals to audio components inside a glass door cabinet to the right of a fireplace. My TV is mounted just to the left but 7 feet above the fireplace.
I suspect the IR dispersion of my remote is not that wide since unless I aim the remote very accurately, the IR macros will not operate my TV and audio components reliably.
I've installed an IR repeater system with the IR target outside the cabinet, with individual flashers on the IR eye of each audio component.
However, my Denon AVR 2313 receiver stopped responding to any IR commands as soon as I activated its flasher. The problem goes away when its flasher is disabled and I use the remote by itself.
I suspect the Denon receiver does not like receiving IR signals from both the flasher and the remote control simultaneously. Can I solve this problem by masking off the front of the Denon to block signals from the remote, so it only sees the flasher signal?
By the way, this receiver has an IR remote input jack on the rear. Denon says you can eliminate the flasher by using a 3.5 mm mono patch cable directly to this jack. However, it doesn't work. Apparently this might be a common problem with Denon receivers as I noticed other internet postings with the same issue.

Perform a search across all forums for "IR flooding". This is the most likely cause of your issue specifically with respects to the IR emitter. Should be a relatively simple fix by obstructing the amount of IR which reaches the IR receiver from the IR emitter.

I tried obstructing the IR eye on my receiver so it only gets signals from the IR flasher and not directly from the remote controller.

So far, it seems to be working fine.

Or you can disable the ir receiver on the front panel using the codes from the d&m ci portal.

As a consumer, I don't have access to Denon's portal.

However, if the IR receiver on the front was disabled, then how could the flasher operate short of using the rear panel IR input jack?

But the IR input on Denon's rear panel will not function for some reason when using a mono patch cable, possibly because the IR front receiver IS active.
