Just got my new MX-890 a few days ago (thanks Surf!).

Just about completed my first run through of programming and testing through CCP. Everything seems to be working pretty well for me. So far I like it. Hopefully it works out better than my Harmony 900 did (too many crashes and unexpected reboots). I miss my MX-850, but that one has long bit the dust.

I had initially planned on using my MRF-350 base station, but so far the IR power of the MX-890 has been plenty enough to make it's way around children's heads and also able to bounce off back walls. I'll plug that in later if I find I need it.

CCP was pretty easy to figure out. A couple of little niggles but I was able to figure it out.

Next steps... Playing around with programming as I get inputs from the wife and kids...

Cool, how do you like the 5-way NAV/SEL key compared to the 850?

I've not had any issues with it thus far. So I guess I am neutral on that question.

That is a good thing then!

I read that the 4-color buttons R/G/B/Y don't light up. Is that true?

I know it is more expensive but did you consider the MX-1200?

The 4 color buttons DO light up, although they are considerably dimmer than the rest of the buttons. My guess is the coloring added to the button reduces the light output of them...

I did not consider the MX-1200 because I did not want the touchscreen and it does not have the 4 colored hard buttons. Personally I think any remote now days should have the 4 colored hard buttons standard, but that's just me.

I think I'd prefer having the 4 colored hard buttons as well. In fact, just for kicks today I photoshop'd a picture of the MX-880 giving it the same hard button layout as the MX-890 with the exception of the transport controls while at the same time not increasing the height of the remote at all. Don't ask me why. Guess I had too much time on my hands at work today. :-P See below.

Ciege...

Did you import devices to the new remote, or just start from scratch ?
