Before I return it to the dealer, has anyone had their MX-780 just stop sending IR/RF signals? Everything appears to look fine on the remote, but as of this afternoon it has just decided to stop sending IR/RF signals. I've tried re-installing the programming into it, and starting a basic program from scratch.

Have put it in IR mode, IR and RF mode, etc, tried it on various components, you name it. The buttons seem to work, I get the "signal" indicator flashing on the UI of the device, but it doesn't seem to send an IR or RF signal at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Take a digital camera (or phone camera) and point it at the end of the remote while pressing a button on the remote. You will be able to see the IR flashes if there are any. You can use any other remote for testing to be sure you can see the IR flashes.

If there aren't any flashes then it could be the remote or batteries.

Thanks. No flashes and new batteries. Looks like the emitter in the remote is dead.

what 'new' batteries did you use? I've seen similar issues with just about every battery in a variety of different remotes (that use AA or AAA) aside from Duracell Ultra's. cheap batteries (and even many name brand batteries) are prone to issues even when they are brand new.

May still be just the unluck of the draw, but make sure you're using good batteries (not just 'new' ones).

Duracell something or other. Can try some different ones again. But the screen is bright and buttons are highly responsive.

Mine just stopped working too. The remote is about a year or so old and last night just quit transmitting IR/RF signal. This is the 2nd MX-780 that died, but both for different reasons.

The OP's remote still doesn't work, cause I sold it to him, and it was returned to me after 5 months of use.

I've been reading some reports on control room of trc-780 remotes just randomly dying. I know it's a different model, but shares tons of parts.

How common is the dying MX-780? Is this happening to the other new remotes too?

Unfortunately our experience has been similar. Percentage wise we have had more issues with the mx780 than any of the other URC remotes that we have sold.

Try the TRC-1280. I have had ONE good one, ever. The rest are all tct'd....along with the DMS-AV. Haha. Oh well. Maybe they will get it right on the hardware end soon.
