I have only used MX 5000 so far. Don't really need the Wi-Fi for most clients. How does the MX 1200 stack up?

The screen on the 5000 is large enough to put a good number of icons on it. Of course, it is free-form, with no grid. Would want that on the 1200 also.

The remote has a nice form factor, but in my opinion the screen is too small for a touch screen.

Tom,

I own and use both. The MX-5000 is a nice remote and certainly has a cool factor. However, for just channel surfing and everyday use I actually prefer my 1200.
The 1200 with a little effort can look really good aswell. I have had no issues with creating graphics and it has better battery life than my 5000.

Try one you'll like it.

The mx-1200 definitely feels nice in the hand.

The lack of support for animated gifs is something that is a little annoying.

The size of the touch screen definitely limits what you can do with it.

Tom,

I have programmed several of both. I have a 5000 in one of my dedicated Home Theaters and a 1200 in my Hearth Room system, so I use them both personally (everyday life) too.

I prefer the 1200 over the 5000. I prefer the actual hard button 10 key of the 1200 and I think it feels better in the hand. I also like the "Lights" button on the 1200 (if applicable).

My only MX1200 quibble: Along with the lack of animated gifs, there is no sound (wav files) speaker on the circuit board (like on the MX980 & MX5000). But the remote does have a beep for button presses (like all the remotes). It's a minor annoyance, but not a deal breaker and for me personally, does not keep from specifying the 1200 and would not keep me from choosing the 1200 over the 500 for personal use.

The WiFi ability of the URC 5000 is simply a bust for me. It doesn't work well enough for me to care about it or sell it with confidence.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

Difference between 2.4 and 2.7 inch screen doesn't sound like much but I take it it's more significant than it seems.

Thanks for the good feedback guys.

Can someone clarify if the 1200 has a freeform screen or 2x3 grid only?

So the torture is finally over, as I just ordered a MX-1200 from my dealer.

Besides RF goodies, are there any bits and pieces I should add to the order (like interchangeable buttons) or is it totally complete?
