Hi,
I recently bought Oppo BDP-103 player and I already have MX-980 remote. I m trying to re-program all my activities with the new Oppo player. Oppo takes HDMI input and upscales to 1080P. So, I am routing my Dish HDMI output to Oppo HDMI Input and connecting the Oppo HDMI Ouput to my TV.

So, here is the issue - when I click "Watch TV", I am running a bunch of commands in my MX-980 Macro to turn on all my devices. Now, when I try to select the HDMI Input in Oppo as "HDMI Input-Back", Oppo player is not switching it to the respective input. However, when I click it later, I mean after sometime, its switching with no issues. I tried adding delay timer but no luck if thats part of my Watch TV macro command.

However, this works fine, if I dont turn off my Oppo player at all and keep the player running and rest all devices Off (TV, Receiver etc,.). Now, if I click on "Watch TV", Oppo player is switching to the respective input or if I want to watch movie, it switches to input source Bluray with no issues.

Bottom line, I am not able to select proper input source, if the player is booting up from power off. Did anyone experience this issue? Should I need to keep the player on at all time. I really appreciate any advise on this.

Thanks,
Danny
Danny

I think it's best practice to leave BD players on all the time. They draw such little power at idle and their boot time can be so long it's best to power them up with any macro that includes system power.

are you actually noticing a picture quality difference with the Dish receiver connected this way?

FYI, unlike Direct boxes, Dish boxes will not let you select native resolution or pass thru. You have to select a fixed resolution for output.

So....the Oppo can't really do much for you. You probably have your Dish box set to 1080I, so your dish box is doing the upscaling of any 480 and 720 material to 1080i. Sending the Dish's output thru the Oppo would then deinterlace 1080i to 1080p, but I doubt you would see a difference.

If you set your Dish box output to 480, yes the Oppo would upscale everything, but you'd be downconverting your HD material with the Dish box before it went to the Oppo.

Having said that, I believe folks are having good results using the Oppo and it's HDMI inputs as a scaler, just doesn't work well unless you can send native resolutions to the Oppo.

I am able to fix this issue by adding a delay of 15 secs. I called Oppo Customer service and they mentioned not to keep the player up and running all the time.

Instead, they asked me to add a delay of 9 secs however, it didn't work. So, I kept bumping up the delay secs and 15 secs works fine.

Why? Does its firmware have a known memory leak that will cause it to grind to a halt when it sits idle?

Yeah that just sounds odd. Almost as odd as using an Oppo player as a poor mans scaler but that's just me thinking out loud...

Yes. Same here. BDP-103/Harmony Touch. Similar need, alternately select HDMI inputs from internal to external HDMI back port. Copy of Input Menu button command does not flow. Will try lots of extra delay seconds and report back.

Since MX980 uses variables, create a variable OPPO_ON and when you have the player off, it is set false (default). Your macro will include IF/ELSE based on the power state of the Oppo, giving a 15 sec delay the first time and no delay when it is on.

Some TVs need that for input switching as well.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Yes, 16 second delay prior to executing the learned Oppo BDP-103 "Input" command works, and maybe a little less. So now will experiment. Thanks to all for contributing to this thread.

+1 that will fix the issue and make the remote run a lot faster.

Hi Danny - do you have discrete codes for "hdmi input back"?

Only way I can find to change inputs on my mx- 88 is toggling through with the "source" button....
