I've signed up for the Los Angeles Total Control series, but looking online, I must admit ignorance.

The only downloads in the Control Room for Total Control appear to be mobile apps. Before now, that has meant software designed to run on mobile devices. Do they mean that now I'll be able to program my MX880 from my droid?

When they first introduced CCP, it wasn't a complete anything, just a folder full of individual non-integrated programs. It's now integrated. Is Total Control just a grandiose name implying that it integrates programming of all their products... but in reality it's just a method for program iPads and such?

We need such a thing, and I'm not saying it's a bad idea at all; it's just that if it's called Total Control, it ought to involve the total line of remote control system components that they make.

Total Control is a new architecture and solution set from URC. The programming software is named "Accelerator" and available under the "software downloads" section of control room.

As a general rule, the CCP and TCP hardware products are not compatible. I've completed all the online courses and have heard good reports regarding the current training sessions. TCP products use and IP infrastructure for communication, control, and distribution. I found the Total Control Application Diagrams document very informative. Because the local network design is so critical, the diagrams serve as a visual reference for segmenting the network into general internet access and protected TCP transport.

Total Control is a new product line that greatly simplifies programming a whole-house system, and adds new products and capabilities to enhance the whole-house system. Although there are a few products that work in both product lines, Total Control is mostly a set of new devices that are designed to be programmed as a whole, not as stand-alone units.

So, don't look towards Complete Control to understand Total Control. Yes, Total Control includes iPhone and iPad apps for your clients to control their systems, but it means even more to you, the dealer, in terms of your ability to design a profitable system to install. We've got some very cool things in the pipeline that you'll learn about at training (but I'm not allowed to talk about here).

Complete Control is all about maximum flexibility, where Total Control is more about integrating the design and programming process. For example, most Total Control devices can be programmed off-site by the dealer, reducing the need for truck rolls and allowing you to respond to customer needs more quickly.

But I'm just a product designer. You'll learn everything you need to know at training. Complete Control remains as a product line, giving you micro-level control over what goes on each customer-facing device, while Total Control programs whole houses much more easily, sacrificing very little in terms of what you can customize.

Ernie, to be honest, when I responded to you I had just sat down at my desk after returning from divorce court. I think my brain was just fishing for some sense of normalcy. I don't usually answer "marketing style" questions, because the company has their preferred way of explaining the products. My mind was just sort of going, "man answer question... you have answer... help man." I'm in a lot better shape today, but Thursday afternoon was probably not when I should have sat down at my computer. :-)
