UNIVERSAL IS A CLASS COMPANY AND THEY BACK UP THE MX3000
AS YOU WOULD EXPECT THE COMAPANY TO DO FOR A $1000 REMOTE.
Call URC 1-800-901-0800 AND TALK TO TECH SUPPORT, THEY
WILL SEND BATTERIES OUT AND I HAVE NOT BEEN CHARGED FOR
THEM.

Lithium-Ion batteries have a two year shelf life, so I
want to make sure I can get batteries on the open market
without having to request it as a part from URC (even
if they are very nice about it!).

Don't know where you heard this "Folklore". But I assure you that it is wrong.

I specialize in electronics for Fuel Gauging, Charging, and Protection of Batteries. I deal with Lithium-Ion and Lithium Polymer daily. I would only be worried about shelf life of these batteries if they were being stored at higher than room temperature for extended periods of time (multiple months).

Note that shelf life is different than use in real life. In real life, I would expect to get about 400 full discharge cycles. (Most decent cells will give you about 80% of the original runtime after about 300 cycles.) Note that wear out of Lithium based cells is a funtion of total Amp-Hours of discharge. So if you discharge to 50%, I would expect about 800 cycles, etc.

I heard it from one of the principal designers of the batteries for Thinkpads.

From Wikipedia:

"A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of charge/discharge cycles. So an older battery will not last as long as a new battery due solely to its age, unlike other batteries. This drawback is not widely publicised."

Was that Sato-san, or one of his employees? How do you know him, or someone in his group, as they're located in Japan.

This was several years ago. They used to assemble and test the Thinkpads them here in RTP, NC before the whole PC division was sold to Lenovo last year. The guy who told me about the shelf life issue was working with the local engineering group to maximize the life of the batteries.

I have located a Web site that sells some parts for Universal Remotes, including replacement charging base and replacement battery for the MX-3000. Here is the contact info:

AMERISPONSE
Home Page URL: http://www.amerisponse.com/
Phone (Sales): 1 (888) 349-5065
Email (Sales): [email protected]

The easiest way to find listings is to select the manufacturer or search for the model number (MX-3000) at the opening home page. Below are samples for MX-3000 parts:

76901 Universal Remote CHGBMX3000 CHGB-MX-3000 - CHARGE BASE FOR MX3000 REMOTE $120.39
76899 Universal Remote BATTMX3000 BATT-MX-3000 - REPLACEMENT BATTERY FOR MX3000 $99.39

Ok, your first name and initial are MF and the site you listed is MPFproducts? The last 5 of your screen name and email is most likely your zip code, which happens to be within 45 minutes from the listed address of MPFproducts. In other words, SPAM!!!!!!!!

Not spamming. I was just trying to help save some people some money. I really don't see the reason for paying $50 for a battery that can now be purchased for about $15 with shipping. I ran across this forum/thread when entering a google search for this battery and put in my two cents. The battery already came in the mail today so yes they are very close to me (the shipping label says Tarpon Springs and I am located in St. Pete).

You did a google search, and then commented on TWO separate threads, your first two posts, with the exact same post (so you copy and pasted).
