I need to upload from older MX850 to my laptop so that I can download to a replacement MX850 remote but the upload to laptop fails due to error code 100-07uu-0000 "the port setting is incorrect (Communications Menu)" also states "error detected while communicating with your remote". Replacement remote & wiring was not previously used.

I have read all of the older posts that appeared to have no resolution. Am hoping that there was a fix by some bright person but perhaps just forget to let the forum know.

Does the port setting in the editor match the serial port setting of the device? If you're using a USB to Serial adapter look in Device Manager to find out what Com port it is assigned to. The go into the 850 editor and set it to the same port.

Start the MXeditor after the USB adapter is plugged in and recognized.

Thanks kgossen & danieljanderson for your responses.

I was finally successful in achieving communication between the MX8560 and the MXEditor but I would like to share what I did to have a successful upload from an older MX850 remote to a replacement MX850:

-I was using an IBM ThinkPad laptop that was on a docking station.
-I used the original serial port plug that came with the MX850 and plugged it directly into the serial port on the rear of docking station because the laptop did not have a serial plug.
-After many attempts and checking device manager showing COM1 was OK (I even tried changing to all the other COM ports individually with no success), I kept getting error code 100-07UU-0000 "the COM port setting is incorrect"

Resolution:
-I went out and purchased a Staples USB to Serial Adapter.
-I disconnected my laptop from the docking station and loaded the USB to serial Adapter CD to download drivers etc. and re-started the laptop...before pairing up the MX850 wiring to the USB to serial adapted and connecting the assembly to the laptop.
-I checked the device manager and noted that COM 6 port was assigned to the USP to serial adapter port

-After launching the MXEditor, I changed the COM port to COM6 in the Communications menu to agree with the COM6 assigned by the computer hardware device manager

After that I was able to successfully communicate with the editor and perform the upload & subsequent download.

(ps. in previous posts I kept seeing that on Belkin or Keyspan USB serial adapters might succeed. Would have saved $20 if I ordered the adapter from Amazon)

I have 3 USB ports on my laptop that work with all devices, except for 2.
For those two devices I have to plug them into a specific USB port (and each device likes a different one), so go figure.

It could also be the latency. I set mine to 1, and it worked right away.

I finally got mine working with several Win7 computers. I had to get a new, Trendnet, USB to Serial Port adapter from Microcenter.

I then went into Device Manager in windows and clicked on the ports (com and LPT). It will show which com port it is assigned. THIS WILL CHANGE DEPENDING ON WHICH USB port on the computer you have plugged into. Go into "communications" on the MX850 program and assign the com port. Always use the same USB port on your computer and it should work fine.

What does that mean?

I take it you mean you set the COM Port to 1, not that you set the latency to 1 (which is what you actually said) (and which I'd understand even less).

As Mario has seen, sometimes a computer seems to tie a device to a particular USB port. I've seen the software for the MX850 TOTALLY tweaky, not allowing disconnection of the cable during programming and test, and sometimes requiring a reboot of the computer to reestablish communication.

And the Keyspan USB to Serial adaptor has for years been recommended as the only one that works for everything. It is THE ONE to have.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
