What are you guys using to take the Serial out of MSC400 and run the signal over Cat5e?

The only thing I have found is this EasyAdapters piece, and even then I'm not sure the pinout will be correct as URC does not use Tip on their RS232 plugs. That and I would still need double ended M-M cable.

The URC Serial connector is not a stereo connector. If you look at it it's got the tip and 3 additional rings. That adapter won't work. I usually cut the end off and solder new cable on and solder the end back on at the MSC-400. Just make sure you're not trying to run anything more than 40 - 45'.

I figured that would NOT work.
Where do you get the cable that has the 4 connectors from?
Seems like a waste to get the OEM cable just for the plug.

I cut and splice the cables.  How good are your soldering skills?  The wires aren't extremely thin and are pretty easy to solder to cat5.

White = Tx   (Pin 3)
Red = Rx  (Pin 2) *even though the unit does not do 2 way so this connection is useless*
shield = Gnd (Pin 5)

I have also just made up my own long serial cable extensions using solder on DB9 ends.

Do you just take MS-01 and cut it in half?

I found few alternatives in both cables and in plugs.
I'll report on progress once the parts arrive.

StarTech NETRS2321E 1 Port RS-232/422/485 Serial over IP Ethernet Device Server

If you already have a CAT5 run, you can convert Serial to Ethernet Device. Still gonna be 1-Way, but gives you more flexibility
