Does anyone know why you can't set the MX-1200 to use both the IR and RF at the same time like you could with the MX-980 ?

I noticed the same thing. I don't think it's that big of deal to me, but it could be to some people.

It is a big deal and I'm stuck on just this question.

The TV is not connected to the MRF 350 and I'm replacing an MX980 which was able to turn on the TV via IR and the receiver via RF.

Does anyone know how I can do that?

I will obviously need to be able to turn off in the same way.

The remote can send both RF and IR at the same time to my knowledge, just not to the same source. You can set your receiver to RF, while keeping the TV on IR. Every URC RF remote since the beginning has worked like this. The only difference I see is not having the ability to set a device to both IR and RF.

The only negative to not having IR and RF at the same time (I set my remotes to both when I can) is for when RF stops working due to interference you can then still use the remote via IR (and troubleshoot over the phone). Of course you have to open the cabinet doors and aim. But your remote will continue to operate.

We had a client for about 6 months RF completely stopped working. He lived near no one, but a ski hill. System worked for years then some weird interference showed up for about 6 months. Had to use IR..... then one day RF worked as it should. Other than driving out to see the problem, since the remote was set to IR&RF no programming had to change. Our theory was there was some construction going on somewhere and the guys were using long range walkies or something causing the interference.
All high's, all low's, it must be.......

This is a very helpful post as i am now also experiencing extraordinary interference. The last MX 980 remote worked fine. It died a violent death. The Mx 1200 replacing it with the MRF 350 and all reprogramming pretty much the same, refuses to work. There is a HUGH construction site across the street. I have tried to change the frequency and it still does not work. Even when the construction is silent for the evening.

I tried using an ALIAS from another device but that is not working. I THINK that it is the interference.

I have also tried to increase the emission from the MRF. I don't have the original screw driver which came with it. Is it a hex or is it a phillips?

Thanks
