Interesting thing happening to my MX-450. The most heavily used buttons such as the SEL button are starting to peel. Must be my acid fingers.
Apparently URC decided to add a clear coating to all the buttons on the MX-450 that were not added to the similar R40 remote control. I really do not think that the coating adds any additional protection to the buttons.
I actually prefer the buttons without the coating. They have a very comfortable rubber feel. I always thought that the coated buttons felt strange when rubbing them across their face. The actual feel of the soft rubber buttons on the R40 and the hard buttons on my previous URC-300 feel nicer to the touch than my MX-450.
The question that remains for me is how do I remove the coating on some of my other most used buttons without damaging the remote control.

Doesn't anyone else have this peeling button problem on the MX-450?
Please don't say it's unappealing.

That's very interesting - I don't think I've heard of this happening before. Did you consider contacting URC just to see what they have to say? They may find the issue of interest for future production.
