I was programming MX-980 in CCP yesterday and noticed few discrete Power On/Off missing for Samsung UN46C6300SF and the DirecTV HR24-500.

I called tech support and after he went thru all DTV codesets and didn't find any discrete On/Off functions, he gave me the standard company line of: "we get our codes from MFG, and we don't verify them".

Now granted they can't possibly test every code, but wouldn't you think that one of those guys in New York subscribes to DirecTV and hopefully uses an URC remote? Wouldn't that someone say: "hey, there are no discrete codes for this device, let me fix that".

I guess I was spoiled by Pronto's database.

What do you guys do other than build your own database? Or do you?

I think maybe you should stop calling tech support. There are 7 code sets with discretes under TV : Samsung : Discrete Functions (2005-2011) that work, it's at the very top of the list! There are also power discretes for DTV under Sat : DirecTV : HR21 and R15.

Check the Samsung 2010 discretes under the TVs for your power codes.
See our Youtube page for info about smart homes, great audio and more.

Guys, first off, thanks for the solutions.
I figured it out 2 days ago while at the job-site, although it took a few extra minutes.
I'm a natural born problem solver, and when I see an issue I try to solve it not just for myself, but for others as well.
I still don't know why almost every code-set has two POWER codes on top when they both do the same thing, as in a toggle function?
Or why the list of codes seems to be random, as in not alphabetical or by most used, or why there are a bunch of blank lines between the code as in DTV R15? For that matter why is POWER OFF and POWER ON separated by a random list of inputs in Samsung Discrete Functions?

My point was that the two devices listed in my example have discrete codes, but yet they were not listed in the device specific listing. Instead we're expected to search other devices and import from multiple device IDs.
URC claims to have 7 people on staff doing nothing but codes, surely they have the tools to clean up the database.
Than again PROJECTOR is still an empty equipment type, so maybe I'm just asking too much.

I value your opinion and respect your input.
Having said that, don't you think that if URC is going to give us model specific codes, it should include all the codes?
Realistically, all I need in a device such as TV is Power On/OFF, volume, mute, few inputs and the keypad. The genetic codes are fine for that and maybe that's what I should start using, instead of the model specific codes.

What do you do?

Do you guys even bother with emailing URC's database people with your findings?
For example, should I email them saying: "HR24-500 utilizes discrete Power functions found in H21 codeset. Please update the database."?

If using codeset 173 (ID1) for DTV, and that's for every DTV box, discrete power is there. Just an fyi, ID2 for DTV is 193 and it also has discrete on/off.

I start with the model specific, then add all the discretes to that same device. But i only do this once. I recommend making a file that has every device you use, setup up each device the way you want it, layout.... etc, then always start with that file. You're programming will be half done when you start.
