Hi me again,

I am experiencing a strange chripping noise when any serial command is sent to the projector.

The setup is:

Sanyo PLC-XU106 projector (being controlled via serial on port 7)
TOA A2030 (No control)

We have 3 audio sources (DVD,PC and Laptop) all inputting into the projector and the output to the AMP.

For some reason when ever we send a serial command to the projector we get a chrip noise through the speakers.

Any ideas........

what if you plug in your laptop to the port to send the serial command?

try it with the laptop charger unplugged first, then plugged into the same power outlet as the msc400.   does this make any difference?

I've heard that noise on 2 separate MSC-400s in different homes; one was using standard 418 and the other was an i version. The noise occurred with IR commands and 232 commands, it's a digital noise relating to the antenna (I believe) and is most noticeable while issuing a trigger command during the macro process and volume up/down ramps. Relocating the antenna, using STP, rerouting IR cables, rerouting interconnects and power did not solve it. Putting a CP2e and gateway in solved it :-) I'd love to hear if/how you resolve this, for curiosity sake. FWIW I've never heard this noise with an MRF-300/350, just the MSC.

how is the msc400 wired?  did you extend the serial cable?  if so, how did you extend it?  premade cable or one you built yourself?

i've done many msc400 installs and haven't had this issue.

Hi Duct tape

This is a cable that we built ourselves using FTP shield cable the spec we used was

9 way 3.5mm

2 RED tip

5 Screen Shield

so you didn't use the URC serial cable at all?

the 1/8" connector on the URC cable actually has 4 connection points.  like this:

I wonder if the connector you are using is causing the issue.

I would try making up a db9 to db9 cable and use the URC serial cable with that.

Do you have the spec for that cable?

Did you get your cookie?

my wife baked some cookies last night :)

i just metered out a urc male rs232 cable

looking at the photo above from left to right

far left = pin 5
2nd from far left = pin 2
3rd from far left = pin 3
far right/tip = no connection

essentially, by not using the proper connector, you are shorting out your pin 2 to pin 5.  one thing you might be able to try, is to disconnect pin 2.  what is probably happening, is the feedback coming from the projector is shorting out to pin 5, thus causing your noise.  personally, i would just pick up a urc cable and connect to that.

Page 77 of the programming manual for the MSC-400 shows the pin out connections for serial.

the only thing with 9 pins I was referring to was a DB9 connector.
