Here's the story. After continually receiving CRAP service from Harmony and their product line since their stock tanked I am ready to go to a URC. What I need to know is which one? I am reading and reading and reading and my brain hurts. Here are my requests:
1. Needs to be RF. No ifs ands or buts. My projector in 3d mode washes out IR in my room. I also am lazy and like to use the remote without pointing.
2. NO DEDICATED TOUCHSCREENS. Looking for something similar to the Harmony 900. I don't mind if it has a touchscreen up top but I am a button guy. Once I learn the layout of a remote I hardly ever look at it.
3. Ability to use discrete codes. There are soooo many cool codes that are not generally available for consumer use but I am a tweaker and love that I have can one button press for "Audyssey Dyn Vol Light" and Audyssey Dyn Vol Med".
I really need to be able to get hex codes in to the remote, so I am assuming I will need a pc program to do this with the urc.

I remember in the past that URC was kinda hard to get software for and also was wondering i that was still the case. I LIKE doing this stuff and don't mind paying for the software but like to do my own programming.

Someone help me out!

most of the URC professional lineup fits your list of needs.   Even the most inexpensive model (MX780 @$299 MSRP) has the features you are looking for.

The trick is going to be finding a dealer that will provide you the software.  Go to the URC website and makes some calls using the dealer locator.  It is up to the dealer whether or not they want to provide the software.

Duct Tape is right on all points. Just to help the headache, look at the differences between the MX780 and MX980. AA batteries vs. charging cradle, screen size, sound capability, greater variable support. Just to help you zero in on capabilities, goodies, etc. For 2-way feedback you'll need to go higher in the line (MX5000).

While the tweaking can be fun, understand that most of the guys here have been doing this full-time a long time. They can unlock the power and efficiency of the controllers. My experience in IT and this field is most often you have to fully understand the capabilities in order to fully exploit them. Granted, some get lucky. Look around on RC for examples of some of the graphics, themes, etc. I'm not talking about just programming the remote, I'm talking about the expertise they have in graphics design, layout, etc.

Good luck. Make sure you can get the software before you cut the check IF that is important to you.
