I am able to install the MX-950 editor on my Windows 7 computer and create remote configuration files with the editor. However, when I try to transfer those files to and from the remote, I get a "failed to load library - rapi.dll" error. Rapi.dll is a Windows ActiveSync file, and the error goes away after installing ActiveSync. However, I am unable to install ActiveSync on Windows 7 or Vista. Windows 7 refuses to install saying something to the effect of ActiveSync is not supported and will make the computer unstable. So the only way I've found to transfer files is to use Windows XP, which is very inconvenient.

Does anyone have a solution for using the MX-950 editor on Windows 7?

This topic has been discussed quite a bit and will show up with any forum or even google search...

The MX-950 is NOT compatible with Windows 7 and will more than likely never be. This remote is discontinued and not supported in Windows 7 because of it's need to utilize Active Sync - which does not exist in W7. It is also not compatible with the replacement Windows Mobile Device Manager.

Your best bet is to find an XP netbook or similar computer to do your synching with the 950.

I DID IT!!!!!

You need virtual xp, activesync 4.2 (not 4.6) and when you plug in the USB go up to usb and click on device. Took me 3 hrs of downloading, testing, etc but after everything I DID IT!!!! it isn't perfect, but darn close, you have to select the usb after every download to the remote, activesync loses communication to the remote somehow....

you can get the mx950 software to run on a windows 7 machine simply by replacing the mx950 usb driver with the mx980 usb driver.

It's not an issue running the software, I can use the software all day, but win7 would never recognize the remote (lack of Activesync in win7)

You might try this - I know it's a MX-3000 - but the procedure with Windows Mobile Device Center worked for me with the MX-3000 and the MX-5000 as far syncing the remote with Win 7 64.

This works, in 64bit Win7
Open Virtual XP, install Mx950 editor inside of virtual Xp, then active sync 4.2.

Connect your Mx-950 to a usb port. Then inside of virtual xp pick the USB pull down at the top. Attach the MX-950 may be an "unidentified device". watch when you attach it will spell out the Mx-950 if you attached the right device. If so...you will see a window to install the driver...Next Install the Mx-950 usb driver, its found here ( c:/ Program Files/Universal Remote Control, Inc\mx-950 editor\usb\window Xp\ then pick your os 32-64. Now open up active sync and sync the 950...

I can upload / download and program the Mx-950 inside Win 7/virtual xp.

It took a while but well worth the time.
