I currently have a Russound CAV 6.6 system in my home, with 6 zones and two ABUS subzones (in the master bedroom and bath where no speaker wires were homerun but cat 5 cable was run in the walls). I have two music sources, an iPod dock and a Russound Sirius tuner. The whole thing works, but in the ABUS zones there is no control of the iPod or Sirius tuner unless I use a handheld remote to change the Sirius station and no control over the ipod at all.

I also have an MX900 remote for my home theater and an MSC400 to control my Denon AVR, TV, Bluray player, cable box, lights, and through RS232 the Russound music system. Since the MSC400 is one way RF, no metadata from the iPod or Sirius tuner is of course displayed on the MX900.

SO, I am thinking of scrapping the whole thing and getting a new system by URC, their total control DMS1200 with the MRX-10 and whatever else is needed for the two zones without speaker wire home run, including the new streaming SNP-1 player and iPod dock.

I also have to say I LOVE the URC remote system I have now. It is totally reliable and bullet-proof at what it does.

Does anyone have experience with the new total control distributed audio system?

Absolutely. The DMS-1200 is an incredibly innovative product in that you could stream wirelessly to another local DMS amp in the home. This offers great advantages in addition to the two way platform. Total Control is also coming out with the iphone/pad apps that will give you antoher level of control. Do you have any specific questions about he product? I can tell you that the product requires some URC equipment that will get your network ready to handle the large streams without slowing you down.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to post here or contact me directly.

I guess my question is does it work? Looking at the TKP-100 single gang keypads, there are only buttons and no LCD screen to display anything. For example, if you wanted to listen to Sirius, turning on a zone with it's (TKP-100) keypad, how would you know what channel you're tuned to? How would you change the channel with the keypad? Can a keypad button be programmed to select a specific channel or toggle through a bank of pre-set favorite channels? This is critical because if using the system requires walking to another room to change the channel, it won't work for me. Similarly, how is the iPod controlled via the TKP-100 keypad?
7 of my 8 current zones use a single gang keypad and I would rather not have to expand all of them to double gang (I could install one KTP-2000 in a double gang space I have in one of the zones) unless absolutely necessary.

The snp1 is the streaming network player; the dms won't do that standalone.

You need a touchpanel instead of the TKP100, like the 2000 you mentioned, if you want to see where you are. The button only keypads would work if you just wanted to start music in a zone when it was already playing elsewhere.

I don't believe the snp is out yet - anyone been playing with a beta unit?

I have an old Fireball with all my CDs loaded on it - will an snp see my fireball music?

You could have the up/down buttons cycle through pre-set favorite stations.

Will the SNP-1 be smart enough to work in an existing system and browse music and iRadio on an MX5000?

I don't believe the SNP-1 is wireless or that Total Control is supporting wireless audio distribution. The products have hardwired LAN interfaces. The training repeatedly states that customers WAP's should be on a segregated LAN segment using a URC MFS switch. This is because URC is using non-compressed streaming audio and will "bring a traditional WAP to it's knees".

The iPod dock is on the network and visible on WiFi by a MX5000. That's why I wondered about the SNP1.

You can not Stream Wirelessly to other devices with the DMS System.

You will need a SNP 1 for all Media and streaming content.

SNP-1 has not been released yet.
