OK I just bought an mx 880 from my neighbor who is going threw a nasty divorce for cheap. Thinking that I would just hook it up to my PC download the software an viola... just like my old harmony remotes. OK well turns out local dealer wants $200 and a house visit to program it. This seems a little overkill to me seeing that I only have 6 devices to control. So Should I bite the bullet and pay the $200 or just sell the thing.

The Mx 880 is part of URC's professional line. The dealer has the option to supply you with the software if they want, but not all will. That being said the URC software is totally different from harmony. With URC you have to configure everything yourself opposed to the harmony where you enter model numbers and the software automatically builds the macros and everything for you. In my area dealers normally charge 90-125 dollars an hour for programming, so I think the price is fair for configuring, testing, fixing problems and training the client. If I was you I would find a dealer in the area to program the remote for you, but is willing to give you a copy of the software, that way you can make changes yourself in the future (provided you figure out the software, since not all can). Hope this helps.

You should probably look at it like you purchased a $500+ remote for a song, and I think $200 bucks (assuming they do good work) is a good deal. This remote is NOT comparable to a Harmony remote in terms of build, look, features and programming power.

Also, I wouldnt call six devices "only six devices". Programming a system that consists of a projector, receiver, satellite box, bluray, media server and cd changer is an average good quality system and number of devices (especially 6) is not how a job is measured.

Again for $200 which includes a house visit you are getting an excellent deal. If you can get the software as well, then your deal get's better.

I see where both of you guys are coming from and yes I agree I did get an awesome deal on it so the $200 isn't bad if I can get the software... i guess I'm just a little disappointed since I'm a total DIY'er and was wanting to tackle the programming solo after hearing how complicated and complex these remotes are.

If he gives you the software you can always try it from scratch and keep your DIY ego in tact. Worse case scenario you can always reload the program you bought.

Ok, I won this mx-880 remote because on my performance at work. Can someone give me the software to program this remote so I can stop using it as a paper weight. I do not have $200 to a remote, not a space ship, a remote programed.

Post it once, shame on me.

Post it twice, shame on you.

The answer is still the same.....
