Turns out, I had one more question. What is easiest way, and what software / hardware will I need to control my music collection on my laptop using my 900? I know this isn't correct forum, but how will I get my enterainment system to play music on my laptop? I have a linksys wireless router that is used for internet. Again, much appreciation for you all.

Windows Media Center Edition and IR remote sensor. That should do the trick for you. The MX-900 has codes for it.

Thank you,

Ok, that is great. If I want my laptop to be mobile (i.e. not in the same room as my media cabinet), do I need a piece of hardware to transmit the signal to my receiver? If so, what would that be? As I said, want to use a laptop, have a linksys router, and I have a 900 with 300 base station.

You need a media server. Linksys makes(or made) a media center extender WMCE54AG. It lets you stream audio and video from your computer wirelessly.
D-link and I-O Data make units that aren't MCE devices but work with most file types.
They come with IR remotes so you can use your MX900 to control it. The D-link has a pretty nice on screen menu system.
The strange thing I've seen is that some of the companies that brought out MCE extenders have quit offering them.(HP,Dell)
You need to be comfortable working with your network settings, because port settings and firewalls have to be set just right.

Hey ... not sure if you're familiar with it, but the NevoSL purports to allow remote control (w/metadata & album art) of a PC-based MP3 collection, directly on the remote.

not sure whether you were considering a remote or have already purchased one, but I have a NevoSL I'd purchased to eval - I'm beginning to realize it's not something we currently want to support, though, so if you're interested email me and you can have it at my cost.

I think the Apple Airport Express does the same thing you're talking about. (If you have your music in ITunes on your laptop.) The Airport acts as a router and a link to your stereo for playing remotely.
Thanks for your help!

And let's not forget that the xbox 360 is also a media center extender. It could not only stream music from your computer, but pictures and video too.
