I have an odd Peice. Its a Key Digital Digital Magic Video Processor STB 12 channel DA Model KD-DH12. Its basically a tuner that I can use to distribute out television viewing to monitors that dont have tuners built in.

I am having issues getting MSC to do this right. I can hyper terminal into unit and it works fine. However, when i send serial commands thru MSC, its flakey. It used to work part time, now it doesnt.

i am getting feedback on commands sent most of the time. I am ASSUMING to use a space, i use \x20 although not needed in hyperterm.

Anyhoot, when I input an antenna change command to change input to ANTENNA 1, i use this command (the 3 is the input for antenna 1):

input\x203

I get this feedback:

>\x20^\x0D\x0A^\x0D\x0A\x00^^\x0D\x0A\x00Unrecog12>\x20^\x0D\x0A\x00^\x20\x20\x20\x20^\x0D\x0A\x00Unrecognised\x20command\x20statement\x0D\x0A\x00DH12>\x20\x0D\x0ADH12>\x20^\x0D\x0A^\x0D\x0A\x00^^\x0D\x0A\x00Unrecognised\x20command\x20statement\x0D\x0A\x00DH12>\x20\x0D\x0ADH12>\x20DH12>\x20^^\x0D\x0A^^\x0D\x0A\x00^\x20^\x0D\x0A\x00Unrecognised\x20command\x20statement\x0D\x0A\x00DH12>\x20\x0D\x0ADH12>\x20DH12>\x20Unrecognised\x20command\x20statement\x0D\x0AUnreco

obviously something is wrong. Anyone have any idea? Since i am gettnig feedback, that means my serial commands are actully making it to the key digital piece right?

Thanks.

Also, simple commands with no space like channel up:

chup

results in this feeback:

ecognised\x20command\x20statem\x20statement\x0D\x0A\x00DH12>\x20\x0D\x0ADH12>\x20DH12>\x20DH12>\x20Unrecognised\x20command\x20statement\x0D\x0ADH12>\x20DH12>\x20Unrecognised\x20command\x20statement\x0D\x0A\x00^\x20\x20\x20\x20^\x0D\x0A\x00Unrecognised\x20command\x20statement\x0D\x0A\x00DH12>\x20\x0D\x0ADH12>\x20Unrecognised\x20command\x20statement\x0D\x0AUnrecognised\x20command\x20stateme

It used to work although temporarily then would eventually lose serial connectivity.

The serial codes are not in the CCP database. I got the \x20 command for the SPACE needed in some commands from URC database on other Key Digital products. pretty sure its correct as it has worked before.

Kinda lost on what to do next.

How far apart is the Key Digital from the MSC-400?

I'm assuming you are using a URC RS-232 cable? Male or female connector?

Obviously I'm looking for things that can cause noise in the RS-232 line.

its about 8 inches from the MSC. I temporarily have the serial cable dangling down the rack. Could be some interfernce there. Will tidy that up and test again.

Thanks!

ps. turns out the firmware is evaluation from 2004. Have contacted Key Digital for an update as its no longer on their website. Could be part of problem.

Turns out I need to RMA the unit. The firmware is an eval from 2004 and it will not communicate even with hyperterm.

Hmm, not a Key Digital dealer but impressed with their service. I sent the unit it, out of warranty. Explained never used and it came directly from them at a CEDIA show. They sent it back to me and Im assuming they updated the firmware issue as requested.

Do you have the 232 protocol for this unit?
