I am currently using two Harmony 890 Pro's to control 4 rooms (I programmed these). I have my video switcher, 2 DVR's, HTPC and Nuvo system in one central location.

I would like to be able to use just one RF transmitter for multiple remotes (IR for everything else).

I am looking at the MX-880 because of the design but know nothing about programming a URC. Is this something I could program myself or do you recommend another remote?

I would be greatful for any advice given.

How much time do you have on your hands to learn? I believe the MX-810 is the same thing as the MX-880 but uses a wizard based programming like the Harmany.

The 880 is a great remote. There is a learning curve to the programming, but once you learn the process, it becomes relatively easy.

I would recommend the 880 over the 810 with your setup because the 880 offers much more flexibility in programming.

Really? So somebody finally wised up and realized this remote was a mistake or at least the software sucked.

Edit: URC still has it on their site. ????

It was discontinued earlier this year. You can't even get them from URC anymore. Whatever's out there in distribution is it.

If you want to see if programming the MX-880 is doable for you, take a look at the programming manual that can be downloaded here.

It's not for the Complete Control Program, which is what you would need to program the MX-880, but the concepts are the same.

I believe programming the MX-880 would NOT be a problem for me. I can put in the extra time if it's the right remote. Can I get this software anywhere besides a dealer, if not would they sale it to me?

are there any other URC remotes you recommend over the MX-880 such as the MX-880Zigbee model or MX-980?

I also saw the MX-450 on Amazon but was not sure if it could handle my setup.

If I go with the MX-880 can I have multiple remotes on one MRZ-260 or MRF-260?

Sure, you can have multiple remotes communicate with a single basestation, but If you're tracking power or have any TOADs, each remote can't track what the others are doing. Seems like you'd want a MSC-400, which would keep track of commands issued by all the remotes.

No and No. An authorized dealer can give you the software if you buy from them, but they cannot sell the software separately.

The Zigbee model is an advantage if you're using multiple remotes to control the same system. The MX-980 is a step up as it has fully customizable color graphics and advanced macro capability.

I also saw the MX-450 on Amazon but was not sure if it could handle my setup.

The MX-450 can handle most setups, but it's not PC-programmable. BTW, only Amazon is authorized to sell the MX-450 and MRF-260 online. Anyone advertising the MX-880 or any other URC Pro series remote for sale online is not authorized and you'll get no warranty coverage from URC. You may not even get the software. Just so you're aware.

If I go with the MX-880 can I have multiple remotes on one MRZ-260 or MRF-260?

Yes.
