Hello all,

I have an MX-980, MRF-350 IR box and the RFX-250 RF system.

I have 2 identical cable boxes (Motorola QIP-6416-2). One on top of the other, both in view of the IR from the 980.

I want the 980 to control only 1 of the cable boxes.

I am trying to follow the directions from Universal, and I just do not understand. I am a noob when it comes to this stuff.

How do I program the remote to only control the one box.

Please help, thank-you

Treat the cable boxes as seperate devices ex. Cable 1 and Cable 2
Use different IR ports on the MRF 350 for each box.
Select RF for those ports
Program your macros appropriately

Ok, well here's the thing. It doesn't make since how it was set up by the original people.

The linked picture isn't of the actual setup. Just to give a point of reference.

Instead of there being one DVR box on the left, there are 2. Both in view of the remote. The IR box is sitting on top of the DVR boxes.

So every component including the Universal stuff is in line of the remote.

The second DVR box I don't want to control at all. Just the first one.

I do not understand how to use the programing software very well either.

I really need a step by step on how to set it up.

I am used to setting up user friendly Remotes like Logitech where a caveman can set it up.

Thank-you

Use a MRF 260 or 350 and set you cable control to RF only. Put the IR on the front of the cable box and cover it with black tape or and emitter cover. That should protect the other box from getting any control from the remote. We do this with cable boxes where there are multiple boxes and we want to control them separately. We give each box a different output port and protect the IR receiver from getting bleed through from the other commands.

Ok, I tried, and I have absolutly no idea how to program this thing for RF.

Whom ever setup the remote had it working. I wanted to save the remote config before I did anything and I over wrote the damn thing. As a computer guy "Download" means i am downloading a file "to" my computer, and to "Upload" is to send "from" my computer. When this damn software is backwards. I click "Download" and it programs the remote with the blank template. Shouldn't I have "Uploaded" the template? argggggg!!! That pissed me off naturally, so now I have no idea how it was done before. No warning that the remote info was going to be overwritten, that is ludacris to me.

Anywho, I still need some detailed help on how to get this going. I mean detailed, seriosuly hold my hand. The software is not user friendly at all. A training course is needed for it.

Thanks again for your patience and help.

Yep, that's why programmers and installers spend a lot of time and effort learning these programs.
I would go here for help:
