Lastly, if there is a guide to doing some manual RS-232 programming on the MSC-400, I could use it for a quick read? It may be as simple as setting the proper communication parameters and then typing/issuing the commands but a guide maybe nice before I start programming my Panasonic AX-100 and VideoStorm CRM84

Thanks for all the tips and help.

T.Wells

Like most things with CCP, it is really easy once you see the way CCP is programmed. I found the RS-232 programming to be relatively easy with the following exceptions:

1) Remember first to set your MSC-400 port to the correct communications parameters (as you said). It is an easy thing to forget but if you do it at the same time as you plug in the RS-232 cable, it will be easy.

2) Use the URC RS-232 cables. It simplifies trouble-shooting later.

3) Use the closest example device in the 232 database for what you are trying to program. Then go into each command and modify the command as needed for your particular device.

4) Remember you are typing hex codes not ASCII codes. Very important when converting.

5) Use Hyperterm to test when unsure of your connection. If your PC can see the device then at least you know what the communications parameters are correct. Also a good way to see if you need a null modem.

I'm still amazed at how well the MSC-400 RS-232 ports work even over 50+ feet.

... The other nice thing is that the MRX-1 will work with the narrow band rf remotes as well as all the IP based remotes..

DB

with one important notice... this is true ONLY with IR ports... forget about sending rs232 or ip network one way command with an mx880 or mx900... I was really exited about the mrx1 until I read that in the manual...

don't get me wrong, it is a nice piece of equipment but I would have really like to be able to send one way rs232 and ip commands with mx rf products...

weird thing with the new addition of ios control, its that it is suggested to use an rxf250 along with the ios app, just in case. but the thing is that when you program with ios, I think you can control two way serial and ip devices but not with a rf mx solution...

that means your avr is going to be controlled with ip on your ios app but if for any reason it is not working and you needed your rf mx to control your system, you will also have to install
flashers also on your avr and have double programming ip/ir for your avr...

I do know better, that's why I don't post answers to 2+ years old questions!

Chucklehead ... Looking for fault instead of recognizing the contribution is sadly a common societal trait these days.

Thank you for YOUR contribution
