Hello:

In programming my MSC-400, I would prefer to use the IR in jacks on the back of some of my components; it is just a cleaner look than taping the supplied emitters to the front of components.

Does the MSC-400 support the male to male connections like I describe above? I would have thought "yes" but in trying this with ordinary m/m mini stereo cables (maybe I don't have the right type of cables), the devices do not respond to any commands.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Many thanks,
John

More information is needed. What devices are you trying? Just because a device has an IR port on the back doesn't mean that it's active, i.e. cable boxes.

Also, you'd want to use mono instead of stereo cables.

Apologies for note explaining further. I am specifically trying to control both a DVDO Edge and an Oppo BluRay BDP63, both of which will theoretically handle controls via a mini-jack. I'll double the stereo/mono issue; that could be my problem.

Thx.

I am in the process of transitioning our store to m/m mini-mic cables whenever possible. I've had a little trouble finding mono cables, though. Anyone have a good source?

the bdp-83 requires a "special" cable that you can get directly from oppo for a few bucks. give them a call and they'll set you up.

i *believe* the edge is a mono connection and should work fine... it's been awhile since i sold mine, so i don't hold me to that.

The BDP-83 does not require a "special" cable. I am using a simple 3.5mm mono cable from ratshack and it works fine.

It is special. Tip is 5v+, ring is signal and sleeve is ground (source: [Link: oppodigital.com], page 18, and here: [Link: remotecentral.com]). Tip is signal and sleeve is ground on the MSC-400 and that's standard. You could damage components by not using the correct cable.

Thank you dsp81 I stand corrected. I called about the RS232 upgrade to my existing unit and I told them my existing setup and he did not comment on any cable difference. My fault for not asking.

Thanks again.
