A friend of mine (underpaid teacher) got a Mx850 & RF unit for a gift. I have put everything he owns into a small closet (for free) and am now trying to program his remote.

No problem:
Roku Netplayer

Problem:
Onkyo TX-SR507 - Receiver
Phillips DVP-3282 - DVD Player

I have tried over a dozen Onkyo - None work. The remote is RC-737M, which seems to be unique to this receiver.
Same thing with the DVD player - None of the similar players work.

I have a MX-810 so the 850 is new ground for me. A related questions:

Do I have to go unto each device and change the Vol setting to the receiver? Or is there a way to set it so this is universal across the remote?

Any help (detailed) would help greatly. Or if anyone is feeling the urge to help a rural teacher send full set.

TIA

Make sure the Onkyo is on Remote ID 1 (if it has that choice in the menu).

If you can get your 810 to work these, you can learn into the 850 from there.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

The programming step called "Punch Through" is where you can set the volume commands globally.

These two devices are NOT in the 810 database either, so the same condition applies.

Thanks for suggestion.

"The programming step called "Punch Through" is where you can set the volume commands globally." - I will look this up in the pdf manual and give it a try. How do you make it global?

"Is there a problem learning the codes from the original remotes?" - The only problem is my lack of knowledge on this remote. I have always used database codes on my MX-810. The 810 software is totally unlike the 850 software.

Scott (my friend) has been VERY understanding with my slow ability to get this thing working. So if I continue to ask basic questions here please don't lose your patience with me.
