(originally posted in urc consumer thread by mistake)
Well I've had my MX-850 for several years now and have modified it with no problem up until today. Now out of the blue I'm getting this error: Invalid Answer-LimitedProgramLoadToRC [LPLTR-2]. What makes it far worse is that no matter what I do I can't even get it back to a usable state!! Any advice for at least getting it to work again would be appreciated - I spent too much time effort and money on this thing to have it brick now...

I'm assuming that URC never even got to the bottom of this issue, did they????

Tried on Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 - same issue.

Apparently the program code (and/or registry entries for it) can become corrupt as well. I had remembered that I had some disk errors and ran CHKDSK. After that I had the problem with the error message. The solution (at least for me) was to re-install and use a brand new copy of the editor software. Hope this helps someone else with the same problem...

yep you found the solution...frequently this needs to be done especially with older (earlier manufactured) versions of the remote, as well as 700's and 800's. uninstall software, then fresh install. annoying as hell, but will usually solve odd problems that dont have an easily traceable cause.

Actually, this may have been a false-positive(?). Had to find this message again yesterday and tried going thru the steps again only it didn't work. I had assumed I had a bad cable. The answer is NO - instead, the software for this remote is pretty crappy. Try the following instead (thanks to Ernie - [Link: remotecentral.com] ):

"I find the MX850 must be done this way, and then it ALWAYS works:
*connect adaptor
*connect MX850
*open editing program
*try to download
*when it fails, change the port to something or other, not 1
*try to download
*when it fails, change the port to 1
*enjoy your success
*if you disconnect the MX850 after this, expect to repeat this process"

**IMPORTANT** - do not buy a new cable until you try Ernie's instructions

Hmmm...I'm not finding it to work. The ONLY port that works in my config is Com 4. That is the USB to Serial cable that then hooks to the remote. If I change it to anything else, it says no communications. Changing it back to Com 4, it still fails.

lAny thoughts?
