I'm having problems getting my Universal Remote controller to work with the DTVPal DVR and I'm hoping someone has a solution. I'm using the MX-900 remote with its companion product MRF-350 (RF base station).

Problem: When I point the MX-900 remote at the DTVPal DVR and press a button it works great. However, when I connect an IR emitter into the MRF-350 and stick the other end on the IR sensor on the DTVPal DVR and then press a button on the remote nothing happens.

If I unstick the IR emitter from the DTVPal DVR and have another person press a button on the remote at the same time I move the IR emitter around and in front of the IR sensor on the DTVPal DVR then 0.5 times out of 10 I can get it to work. I haven't been able to figure out any rhyme or reason as to when it works versus when it doesn't work. So this tells me the MRF-350 base station is in fact getting the RF signal from the remote and passing it to the IR emitter, but the DTVPal DVR is not always getting IR code.

1. Has anyone successfully used an IR repeater system with the DTVPal DVR and have it work consistently?

2. If the answer to #1 is Yes, where exactly did you stick the IR emitter on the DTVPal DVR?

3. If the answer to #1 is Yes, did you have to increase or decrease the IR power sent to the IR emitter? On the MRF-350 you can control the amount of power sent to the IR emitter (I've tried every setting with no success).

-----------------------------

I've also tried setting the option in the MX-900 editor software to only send IR signals to the particular IR line in the RF base station. That hasn't made a difference. I've also set up the MRF-350 base station to blast the IR signal through its window and that hasn't work either. I've also verified that the signal is being sent both through IR and RF, RF only, etc.

I have verified that the MRF-350 base station is receiving the signal from the remote. Like I said earlier, 0.5 times out of 10 it will work, but only if I'm manually moving the IR emitter in and around the IR sensor on the DTVPal DVR.

Any suggestions will be appreciated?

P.S. Has anyone tried hard wiring an IR emitter directly to the IR wire inside the DTVPal DVR box? My DTVPal DVR is out of warranty so voiding the warranty is not an issue anymore.

Try placing a piece of paper or colored electrical tape (I use white or red)between the emitter and the IR sensor on the DVR. This will reduce the IR output to the sensor.
