I have an MX-950. It works great except for one thing I cannot
understand. When I test an "off" macro through the editor software the
950 turns off my system properly. When I use the same macro from the
"off" button on the remote it also shuts off a component that I do not
wish to shut off. Could someone explain this behavior and provide a fix?

Can we have a list of the components and could you tell us which ones you are telling to turn off and which one is turning off that you don't want to. It would help to have as much detail as possible on an issue like this.
There are 10 types of people in this world,
There are those who understand binary,
and those who don't!

Most likely.

With the new remotes, if you have an off macro on the Cable page - off button, it will execute the macro, and also the Cable Off command, because the macro is on that button. Just right click the button, choose Delete Contents, and choose IR Command as the only option, so it won't delete the macro.

It could very well be an IR command on the same button but nothing happens when I right click the button. I must be doing something wrong. The components I control are as follows:

Rotel Processor
Samsung DLP
Denon DVD Player
Scientific Atlanta Cable Box
Slim Devices Squeezbox 1

The squeezebox and the Scientific Atlanta are the components that shut off when I use the remote button but not when I test it through the software. I don't want them to shut off.

Thanks for your help.

Don't know for sure about the 950, but you could try this which works in my 850 editor: left-click the button to select it, then press the delete key on the keyboard. You will be presented with a small dialog to select what you wish to delete.
