I just got an email from URC with the subject line

Finally, a Universal Approach to Programming

I think that's pretty cool, except for one thing. This is at least the third time I've gotten an email from URC with that title.

If it was finally here before, how can it be finally here now? Is this just advertising crap that's supposed to grab my attention but doesn't mean anything, really? I mean, the first time I heard this idea from URC, it was the original programming "suite." That was a program that brought up icons for several different programs, each of which could only be operated one at a time. And, oh, yeah, it put an icon for each program on my desktop.

Guys, a "suite" is not a bunch of rooms, each of which opens to the hall, but none of which open to each other.

How's the "Universal Approach to Programming" now? Is it ONE program that I can used to program any and all URC product?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Bingo... It's called CCP. Complete Control Program.

I'm not sure what's covered as far as products though. You'll have better access to that info then I do.

It's unlikely that MX-3000 will be added to CCP. It's not impossible, but given the development time necessary to support it, I would expect that MX-6000 will have all but taken over MX-3000 sales by the time the changes could be made.

URC used the word "Complete." But then, they've used the word "Finally" three times, too. I'm waiting for "Really Truly Finally Actually Complete (more or less)."

Quite possible (if it were the same price point)...

I'd imagine you'd make the same point if they didn't include all their legacy products as well.

Well of course, we considered Not Complete Yet But Inclusive Of Most New Products And Eventually Our Only Editor As Older Products Are Retired Program, but test groups had trouble remembering the NCBIOMNPAEOOEAOPARP acronym.

Well I found 8 paperweight MX-500's and 3 paperweight prontos on a revamp project (and counting, those were just walking around random areas) - Didn't see the 500 listed on the new program and I don't really see myself trying to re-program that system. Anywhere in particular the old remotes go to die other than my garage?

donate the old remotes, or

paint them funny colors and call them custom designer remotes - charge accordingly? they might be the newest trend in hip tech-(green/reusuable) art.

The 500 wasn't pc programmable anyway ;-)

If the house is filled with ancient stuff,it's time for an upgrade!!

The stuff available in the "current" world is SOOOO much better!

Are they still dragging around a "bag phone"?!?

So true... I gotta admit: it was really cool today to be able to update my Facebook status from my remote control!
