I am looking for a reliable remote that will allow me to change the channels on my Dishnetwork receiver. I get many different audio channels and it would be nice to select an icon on the touch screen to change to any of the different channels without selecting each individual digit and then enter. I like the looks of the MX-3000. How many channels can I have set up? I understand some of the less expensive remotes like Harmony no longer offer this. I believe logitech calls them Favorites. Oh yea it would also be nice to control my X10 lights and be wife friendly

You can have as many channel logos or favorite channels as you have channels. This is something you'd have to either program in yourself or have programmed. X10 can be controlled via an IR543 IR-to-X10 controller. If you're familiar with Harmonys, you should know that the MX-3000 requires some serious programming to reach its full potential. It's not a Q&A-based setup like the Harmonys, but it allows for much more flexibility in programming.

Thank you for the reply. I do have some experiece programing a RS232 home controls system called smartlinc. Is there a way I can download the software to see how complicated it will be to program macros. I see Universal remotes has a link but it requires a purchase and registration.

Unfortunately no, but you can get a good idea of how it works by downloading the MX-3000 Ediotr manual found in the "Files" section of this website.

If you like the looks of the MX-3000 and can afford it, anything you need in the way of programming help is here for you, as long as you are willing to put in a little work.

It's not rocket science, and you can get a setup like you want up and running reasonably easily, and then you've got time to really get to know the software and you'll find it gets easier and easier to use, and that the MX-3000 will control just about anything with the right peripherals and reach its potential as SurfRemote has said.

When I say "easy", I mean in comparison to some higher end control systems. It still takes someone who is willing to put in the time and effort, and isn't scared of doing a little planning and isn't scared of a computer!
