Be sure on any of the Networkable AVRs to properly set the POWER SAVE option, if not set to the OFF/ ON (setting is different on 08 models (OFF)from the new setting on 10 models(ON)) setting the IR/IP/232 are disabled when in Standby Mode.

Matt,

Thanks for your suggestion. I checked my Network Powering Save setting on my 3808CI and it was set to "Off". So just for kicks, I changed it to "On" and it didn't make any difference. No matter what my Power Save setting was set at, the reliability of the signal was about 50/50 at best when using the 3.5MM mono cable plugged into the rear "Room to Room IN" port.

I changed the Power Save setting back to "Off" and changed back to using the emitter taped to the front of the 3808. My 980 remote is set to RF only and with the emitter it's 100% reliable. I'd really like to get rid of the emitter on the front of the receiver, so if you have any other ideas, I'd be glad to try them out.

Thanks,
Dan

Just for kicks. What does a different mono to mono wire do to the situation?

Matt, I tried changing the mono cable for another one I had laying around and the result is the same, it's no better than 50% reliable.

Have you checked the control system on channel 0 for interference?

Is there by any chance an x-box in the system?

No x-box in the system, and even though the IR emitter works 100% of the time when attached to the front of the receiver and the MX-980 is set to RF only, I tried setting the MRF-350 to Channel 0, and there was no interference showing up.

I bought it in Nov. 2007, so it would be out of warranty by now, correct? I may have bought it with my Amex Card and they extend the warranty by one year, so it's possible I could get it covered by Amex. But regardless of the warranty issue, I'd have to be without my AVR for at least a couple of weeks, and all my A/V components are run through the 3808, including Zone 2 in my bedroom.

I do have a question though about service, how would the factory be able to test the Remote Control In since I'm not using it with a supported remote?

I've heard of others having this same problem, am I the only one that hasn't been able to get it working? Maybe if I get ambitious some weekend, I'll do a factory reset and redo everything.

Thanks for the help Matt, I really appreciate it.

If you send it to us in NJ we have products from CRESTRON, AMX, URC and RTI for testing on any product.

I would go with a reset first. If you are to consider a reset before sending it in for service. May I suggest that you place the unit on your network, type the AVRs IP address into your browser and go to the Manual Setup option. Click SAVE. This will allow you to then reload your configuration back into the AVR after the reset. Just a thought to help you save some time on setup.

If you would like to set something up maybe I could call you Monday or Tuesday next week to try and work through this.
Thanks for the help Matt, I really appreciate it.

i never liked that emittor cable snaking its way into the front of my Denon 4806CI.. It had proven to be very reliable though. I didnt know IR in existed on the back of this receiver.. I will try this myself. Now, I need to look for a cable from my MSC-400 to 4806CI IR/In

question: please refer link below. Click on hyperlink "back" in the image to view the backpanel of 4806CI
[Link: usa.denon.com]

On the backpanel of the 4806ci, should I use the jack that is labelled "room to room remote in" ?
