I have an MX-800 that originally came with the updatable version of the editor (I bought it from an authorized dealer). However, I had to reload my hard drive and now the old version that I have (1.12.203) no longer works. It has the live update feature, but when I attempt to use it, it just says: "Download Failed." I assume this is because URC reorganized their web site, because when I attempt to use the Help, Go to Web Site menu, it also fails to find the correct page.

So, I have the updatable version, but it is no better than the version I can download off URC's site because live update is broke. Actually, it's worse, because it is an older version.

So, I want to contact URC and get the most recent version (I have a receipt from the dealer), but the last time I contacted customer service, I never received a reply. Does anyone have a contact email @ URC that I can use that will actually result in a response of some sort?

Thanks!

That shouldn't be the case. They didn't reorganize anything in that manner. Sounds like something with your computer. What OS are you using?

I have this problem:
I purchased an used URC mx-3000 with its CD software.
I installed the mx-3000 editor and updated witl "live update".
The software tells me that I can't update anymore the editor and that I have to download the new Complete Control Suite.
I downloaded fron URC site the new(?) editor and I can't update: there's no "live update" option at all.
My editor version is 1.20... etc.
How can I upgrade the remote control firmware?
Thanks in advance!

Go back to the individual you got your MX980 from and ask for the software.

Anybody know if the MX-800 software will program an MX-850? I believe the internal hardware's virtually identical.

I've got an MX-800 that I bought years ago from bluedo and have the live update-able software for it (currently at version 2.12.300).

As the MX-800 is getting a little long in the tooth (backlight doesn't work, some buttons a little flakey), I'm thinking of picking up a second hand MX-850 (would like the discrete center button).

However, figure I'd have the same problem getting the MX-850 specific software, but if I can program with the MX-800 software may be worth pursuing.

Thanks in advance.

I called Universal Remote today at the number listed on their web-site. I asked if I as a consumer would be allowed to download the software if I were to purchase a MX-980.

They said if I called and could fax them a valid reciept (I assumed that had to be from an authorized dealer) and serial number of my remote that they would send me a link that I could use to download the MX-980 editor (which is different than the CCP editor). However, I would not be able to get a link to the Expansion Pack (which contains the channel icons).

They knew I was a consumer and not a certified partner.

I have not tried it yet, but will soon.

Yep, you can use the same file too and not have to do any reprogramming.

So looking through this thread, I find that the MX-850 that I purchased two years ago on eBay (Not trying to beat someone out, sincerely didn't know about the authorized dealer purchase), which was programmed by a URC authorized person (since apparently gone out of business) is essentially not updatable by me, if I want to add a new product?

I'm trying to add a new dvd player now, and want to stab myself.

Anyone know of an authorized dealer in the Connecticut/Rhode Island border area?

Go to the following link:

[Link: universalremote.com]

enter your info, and download the software and install it. I don't think that the website form checks the "authorized dealer" fields for validity.

URC posts updates to the consumer version of the software (the version with live update disabled). These updates are not done as frequently as the live updates.

If the last version of the software you have is 2 years old, there most certainly is a newer version of the software at the above link. And remember that if the exact model of your DVD player is not in the database, try the codes for other models from the same manufacturer. And of course you always have the option to learn codes from the original remote. But learning isn't a solution for codes like discrete on/off which most often are not on the remote.

If you can't find discrete on/off codes for your DVD player, try sending the play command and see if it turns the player on. If so you can use the play command to turn the unit on, and a macro using the play and power toggle code to turn it off.

An ebay dealer went out of business? no way...

Thats probably going to hurt.

You can download the software. Be sure to extract the existing program and make 2 copies of it. That way you have a backup in case something goes wrong while you are reprogramming.
