I purchased an MX-3000 from Pro Remotes, which is an authorized dealer. I downloaded the software from URC but I don't see any 'live update' link. Any ideas what I'm missing?

From what your saying, I think your missing live updates.

Pro Remotes is supposed to furnish the updateable version of the software, according to the manufacturer. I was able to get the updateable software from the manufacturer, but only after I complained.

Send an email to Damon (damondg AT proremotes DOT com), and ask him for the software. You may need to give him your order information. He'll give you the software.

Dear Eric

I need to be able to run the live update for my B&K SR 10.1 (MX700) remote. Two years of remodel & storage, new equipment and crashed computer are the reasons. The Live update fails every time but I used to do it prior to the downtime. How do I get the update feature going?

First, no policy discussion here. Period. That means YOU!

Posting policy that there is no policy is a catch 22, or an oxymoron, is it not? =D <--- edited to add smiley face so you know i'm just joking!

Just so I'm clear, if I have a valid serial number under my battery compartment, even though I don't and I bought it from an authorized dealer, I can go through the URC website to get non-updatable software, not updatable software?

As a user with more than one post I'll second this question.

I have the same remote (which is perhaps why there is no serial number under the battery cover... at least in any usable format for the URC website?) with working software, but not sure how to tell if i have the latest IR database...

I am also considering the MX-980 but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle at this point. My dealer emailed B&K to which their response was, "Version 1.12.280 is posted on our website"... not exactly the latest version we're talking about is it?

I almost didn't post this because I'm not sure if my post is policy related or not. Isn't getting software and URC's policy kind of intertwined?

If you buy the MX-980 from an authorized dealer, you can get the updatable software.

B&K is not URC, and therefore even though URC gives them the software, I'd assume they distribute it in their own manner.

Not true if you buy from Best Buy (Magnolia).

I said can, not will. I'm aware that BB doesn't give updatable software, and therefore do not reccomend buying from them.

Oh man, I had no idea of what I was missing by not fooling around with my Home Entertainment setup for a couple of years...

I actually came back to RC to get an idea for a new remote, and stumbled into the URC policy fiasco.

I'm like a lot of you...I have an MX-700 VER: 01 that I need software for, and it seems no matter how I input the serial number, I'm unable to get the website to accept it. It either says "invalid serial number" or simply returns the same page with no further info. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Charles

Yes, I did. Without posting my serial number (it does appear that the first four digits are a date code in the format mmyy, with the remaining format Z99999), I tried the last six digits in each field with each of the various header values, including "none". I get either the error message "Serial Number not valid for MX-700" or the page simply returns with NO error message, but no download option either.

Should I get a link to the download, or does the site send an e-mail to me with the link?

thanks!

It has been a while since I had to go through the process but I believe you should be able to download after going though the registration process. Personally I would try entering a number instead of a letter for the first digit; no idea if this will work but it is worth a try. If you continue to have problems I would call URC Tech Support at (800) 901-0800; don't bother trying to send an email. Best of Luck!
