The volume button on my MX-800 isn't working like it should because I think it is worn out. The remote is 3 1/2 years old. I do not have the program for the controller. Can I upload the program in the controller to my PC?

It appears that NXG has remotes built by Universal that look like my MX-800. I assume the guts are the same. I want to download the program into the new NX-RM610. Is this possible?

Thank you,
Tom

Tom,

Welcome to the forum!

To be honest, I never even knew NXG sold remotes. Based on the photos I found, it looks like the remote you are referring to is a rebranded MX-850 with a different paint job. The main difference between this remote and your 800 is the improved select button which is now separate from the cursor buttons. The new remote may also support Narrow Band RF base stations such as the MRF-350, but I can't say for certain. I'm sure someone here can enlighten us. :)

As far as getting the software for the NGX remote, I'm afraid I don't know what to tell you. Normally, you would go to URC's site, enter your serial number, and you could download the software directly from them. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how this works with rebranded products. Again, I'm certain others here know more about this than me (particularly Dale). Once you do get the software, it shouldn't be a problem uploading the configuration to your PC and then downloading it to the new remote. If memory serves me correctly, MX-800 files and MX-850 files are fully compatible.

You may also want to consider going with one of the newer generation of remotes. URC's MX-900 is quite popular, and it offers a lot of bang for the buck. :)

Since you have an MX-800 you should be able to go to the URC site, enter your serial number of your remote, and download the editor.

The MX-800 and MX-850 are also 100% compatible, so you could potentially purchase a new MX-850 and download the old setup to the new device.

You could also experiment with cleaning and/or re-surfacing the buttons. The former sometimes works, but you may find a recent post I made about the later where the results have been pretty spotty using Caikote 44 to resurface a button.

Meaning it did work, but the coating has a tendency to chip away over time requiring further maintenance.

First time I heard of the NXG remote too, and it'd be interesting to hear if it is an exact clone or if something has been modified such that it doesn't work with the MX Editor.

The NXG NX-RM610 is one of four products made for them by URC. The RM610 is actually a MX-650, which is not PC-programmable. There's also a RM820 which is a MX-850, a RM505 which is an MX-500 and an RF200, which is an MRF-260.

The software for the RM820 is provided by the reseller and is updateable. It's exactly the same as the MX-850 software, only with the RM820 designation.

Neat. Any thoughts of carrying the NXG version of the remote if doing so eliminates the various restrictions URC is placing on their own line?

I'm back in the market looking at programmable remotes & stumbled on the RM820 myself this week.

You can download the software from their website (no serial # needed), which I did just to play with it & see if I could find all my devices (some are fairly old) and to make sure it would let me move stuff around like I want.

Good Luck !!

That's correct and they're not supposed to be sold online.

Oops. Funny how history repeats. Well, not funny. It's hard to stand in the way of people wanting to buy a product and the people willing to bend the rules to supply it.

I was hoping this was some sort of approach by URC to allow the low-end of their complete control line to be sold freely and competitively in the market.

I just ordered an RM820 online from an Amazon reseller. The backlight on my MX-700 has gone out.

I downloaed the software from the NXG site and was able to load the current configuration file (mxf) for my 700. The sotware is just like the MX700 editor.
